Anal mass
I found a small lump the size of a grain of rice near my anus while showering.
It is not painful or itchy, and it has a slightly dark purple color.
I have attached a photo in the link below.
I would like to ask the doctor what this could be.
Thank you.

Dr. Ke Fangxu reply Surgery
Based on the photo you provided, it appears to be a small thrombosed hemorrhoid.
If there is no pain or discomfort, you can leave it alone, or you may apply an over-the-counter hemorrhoid cream.
It should resolve and disappear within about a week.
However, if the symptoms persist without improvement, it is best to consult a physician for further evaluation.

More Info
When you notice small blackish bumps near the anus, it can be concerning, and it's important to understand the potential causes and implications. Based on your description of a small, painless, and non-itchy bump that is dark in color, there are several possibilities to consider.
1. Hemorrhoids: One common cause of bumps in the anal area is hemorrhoids, which are swollen veins that can develop either internally or externally. External hemorrhoids can sometimes appear as small lumps and may darken in color, especially if they become thrombosed (clotted). While they are often associated with pain or discomfort, some may not cause any symptoms at all.
2. Skin Tags: Another possibility is an anal skin tag, which is a benign growth of skin that can occur around the anal area. Skin tags are usually painless and can vary in color, sometimes appearing darker due to pigmentation or irritation.
3. Pigmented Lesions: The bump could also be a pigmented lesion, such as a seborrheic keratosis or a benign mole. These are generally harmless but can vary in appearance and may require monitoring or evaluation by a healthcare professional.
4. Warts: Genital warts, caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), can also appear in the anal region. They may be small, flesh-colored, or darker and can be painless. If you suspect this, it's essential to consult a healthcare provider for appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
5. Other Conditions: Less commonly, the bump could be indicative of other conditions, such as a cyst or, in rare cases, a more serious issue like a malignancy. While the likelihood of cancer is low, especially in the absence of other symptoms, it is still a possibility that should not be overlooked.
When to Seek Medical Attention
Given that the bump is new and you have concerns about its appearance, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation. A doctor can perform a physical examination and may recommend further tests, such as a biopsy, if there is any suspicion of a more serious condition.
Conclusion
In summary, while small blackish bumps near the anus can often be benign, such as hemorrhoids or skin tags, it is crucial to have any new or changing lesions evaluated by a healthcare provider. They can provide a definitive diagnosis and appropriate treatment options if necessary. Remember, early intervention is key to addressing any potential issues effectively.
