Is this the early stage of pregnancy?
Hello, doctor.
On August 6th, my partner and I had intercourse using a condom and withdrew before ejaculation.
We checked the condom and it was intact.
My girlfriend is expected to get her period on August 22, but on August 17, she went out and reported the following symptoms: nausea, sore throat, body aches, abdominal discomfort, and a feeling of dizziness.
Since the temperature was a bit high today, I'm unsure if this is heat exhaustion or early pregnancy.
Can you tell me if using a condom and withdrawing would lead to pregnancy? Also, are the symptoms mentioned indicative of early pregnancy or heat exhaustion? How soon can early pregnancy symptoms occur? Previous questions can be found at https://sp1.hso.mohw.gov.tw/doctor/All/ShowDetail.php?sat=1&q_no=138414.

Hello, a pregnancy test is usually reliable after 12 days post-conception.
The chances of pregnancy are low, so it's best to use contraceptive measures beforehand.
If your period is more than a week late, it is advisable to consult a gynecologist.
Wishing you good health.

The symptoms you describe—nausea, sore throat, body aches, abdominal discomfort, and headaches—can indeed be indicative of both early pregnancy and heat exhaustion. It is important to consider the context of these symptoms to better understand their potential causes.
In early pregnancy, many women experience a range of symptoms due to hormonal changes, particularly the increase in human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and progesterone. Common early signs of pregnancy include nausea (often referred to as morning sickness), fatigue, breast tenderness, and mood swings. These symptoms typically begin around the time of a missed period, which for your girlfriend would be around August 22, given her expected menstrual cycle. However, some women may start experiencing symptoms as early as a week after conception, which could align with the date of your encounter on August 6.
On the other hand, heat exhaustion can also cause similar symptoms, especially in hot weather. Symptoms of heat exhaustion include nausea, dizziness, headache, muscle cramps, and fatigue. If your girlfriend was exposed to high temperatures, particularly if she was active or dehydrated, it is plausible that her symptoms could be attributed to heat exhaustion rather than pregnancy.
Regarding your concern about the possibility of pregnancy despite using a condom, it is important to note that while condoms are effective in preventing pregnancy when used correctly, no contraceptive method is 100% foolproof. The risk of pregnancy exists, albeit low, especially if the condom was compromised in any way. However, since you mentioned that the condom was checked and found intact, the likelihood of pregnancy is reduced.
To differentiate between heat exhaustion and early pregnancy, consider the following steps:
1. Hydration: Ensure that your girlfriend stays well-hydrated, especially if the weather is hot. Encourage her to drink plenty of fluids and rest in a cool environment.
2. Monitor Symptoms: If her symptoms persist or worsen, it may be wise to consult a healthcare professional. They can provide a more accurate diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatment.
3. Pregnancy Test: If her period does not arrive by the expected date (August 22), consider taking a home pregnancy test. These tests are generally reliable and can provide clarity regarding her pregnancy status.
4. Seek Medical Advice: If she experiences severe symptoms, such as persistent vomiting, severe headache, or confusion, it is crucial to seek medical attention immediately.
In summary, the symptoms your girlfriend is experiencing could be related to either early pregnancy or heat exhaustion. It is essential to monitor her condition, ensure she stays hydrated, and consider taking a pregnancy test if her period is late. If there are any concerns about her health or the severity of her symptoms, do not hesitate to seek medical advice.
