Penile shape
In the past month or two, I have noticed that during the process of incomplete erection, there is a specific area in the mid to posterior section of the penis that is noticeably narrower and has a significant indentation compared to the front and back.
Additionally, the color of the skin in that area is darker.
However, when fully erect, the width appears normal.
During urination, I observe that a small section near the posterior end of the foreskin is indeed darker, and the erectile tissue seems to be slightly tilted to the right.
After masturbation, I often feel a slight itch in the frenulum and the underside of the glans.
I would like to know what the issue might be.

Dr. Du Shixi reply Urology
Hello: The shape and skin color of the genitals are generally uneven, which is quite common.
If there is no redness, blisters, or broken skin, it is usually considered normal.
As for the itching sensation often felt under the frenulum and glans after masturbation, it may be caused by friction.
It is advisable not to apply too much force to avoid injury.
Wishing you good health.

Understanding changes in penile shape can be concerning for many individuals, and it's important to approach this topic with both sensitivity and a clear understanding of the underlying anatomy and potential causes. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing a noticeable change in the width of the mid-shaft of your penis, along with some color changes in the skin and sensations of itching after masturbation. Let's break down these observations and explore possible explanations.
Firstly, the penis is composed of erectile tissue, which includes the corpora cavernosa and the corpus spongiosum. These structures can sometimes appear to change shape or size due to various factors, including blood flow, hormonal changes, and even the position of the penis during different states (flaccid vs. erect). When you mention that the mid-shaft appears narrower and that there is a color change, it could be related to a few different factors.
1. Erectile Function and Blood Flow: During partial erection, the blood flow to the penis may not be uniform, leading to variations in width. The sensation of a narrower mid-shaft could be a result of how the erectile tissue is filling with blood. When fully erect, the blood vessels expand, and the penis typically achieves a more uniform width.
2. Skin Changes: The darker coloration of the skin in the mid-shaft area could be due to a variety of reasons, including friction, irritation, or even hyperpigmentation. This is not uncommon, especially in areas that experience more friction or pressure, such as during masturbation or sexual activity.
3. Peyronie's Disease: While less common, it is worth mentioning that Peyronie's disease can cause changes in the shape of the penis due to the development of fibrous scar tissue. This condition typically presents with curvature, pain, or changes in width. However, if you are not experiencing pain during erection or significant curvature, this may be less likely.
4. Irritation and Itching: The itching sensation you experience after masturbation could be due to several factors, including irritation from friction, sensitivity to soaps or lubricants, or even a mild infection. If the itching persists or is accompanied by other symptoms such as redness, swelling, or discharge, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare professional.
5. Hygiene and Care: Maintaining proper hygiene is crucial, especially in the genital area. Ensure that you are cleaning the area gently and thoroughly, as irritation from soaps or improper cleaning can lead to discomfort or changes in skin appearance.
In conclusion, while some variations in penile shape and skin color can be normal, especially during different states of erection, it is essential to monitor these changes. If you notice persistent symptoms, such as significant discomfort, changes in sexual function, or if the color change worsens, it would be wise to seek a consultation with a urologist. They can perform a thorough examination and provide guidance tailored to your specific situation. Remember, open communication with a healthcare provider can help alleviate concerns and ensure your reproductive health is well-managed.
