Anal hemorrhoid and fistula incision surgery?
Hello Doctor, I had a fistula incision surgery a week ago, but today I still feel some swelling and pain, which is quite similar to the sensation I had with the previous anal abscess.
The area where the incision is healing feels swollen when I touch it.
Is this normal? I'm worried that it might be healing too quickly and that there could be another abscess inside.
Additionally, after my hemorrhoidectomy, I returned for a follow-up five days later, and the doctor said that three external hemorrhoids have developed again and suggested that they be removed in the clinic.
I am really scared, so I refused.
Do I really need to go back to the clinic to have them removed?
Also, I have been experiencing blood in my stool for the past few days, and there is blood when I wipe after urination.
How long do you think it will take for the bleeding to stop? Thank you, Doctor.

After undergoing surgery for an anal fistula and hemorrhoids, it is not uncommon to experience a range of symptoms, including swelling, pain, and bleeding. Your concerns about the swelling and pain in the area where the incision was made are valid, especially since you mentioned that it feels similar to the discomfort you experienced with the previous abscess.
Post-surgical swelling and discomfort can be part of the normal healing process, but it is essential to monitor these symptoms closely. The area may feel tender and swollen as it heals, and some degree of pain is expected. However, if the swelling increases significantly or if you experience severe pain, it could indicate complications such as infection or the formation of another abscess. In such cases, it is crucial to contact your healthcare provider for further evaluation.
Regarding the bleeding you mentioned, it is not unusual to have some blood in your stool or when wiping after a bowel movement following surgery for hemorrhoids. This can occur due to irritation of the surgical site or the healing process itself. However, if the bleeding is persistent, increases in volume, or is accompanied by severe pain, you should seek medical attention promptly.
As for the new external hemorrhoids that have developed post-surgery, it is understandable to feel apprehensive about further procedures. However, it is essential to discuss your fears with your doctor. They can provide you with information about the necessity of the procedure and what to expect. If the hemorrhoids are causing significant discomfort or complications, it may be advisable to have them treated sooner rather than later to prevent further issues.
In terms of recovery, the timeline for when you might stop seeing blood in your stool can vary. Generally, if the bleeding is due to surgical trauma, it may take a few days to a couple of weeks for it to resolve as the area heals. However, if you notice that the bleeding persists beyond this timeframe or worsens, it is crucial to follow up with your healthcare provider.
In summary, while some swelling, pain, and bleeding can be expected after surgery for anal fistula and hemorrhoids, it is essential to remain vigilant about your symptoms. If you have any concerns about your healing process, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for guidance. They can assess your situation and determine the best course of action to ensure a smooth recovery.
