There are suspected small blisters on the base and sides of the penis?
Hello doctor, I have some small bumps at the base and sides of my penis that resemble tiny blisters.
Currently, there are three of them, and they are very small, not painful or itchy.
Initially, I thought it was folliculitis since they are located around the hair follicles.
However, later I felt that they didn't seem like that; if I were to pop them, they would bleed.
At first, I thought they were pimples and applied some acne medication, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.
Could this be a sign of an infection?

Hello: If there are recurrent episodes, it may be herpes.
Additionally, when there are wounds, it is important to maintain cleanliness and dryness.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to small bumps at the base of the penis, there are several potential causes to consider. Based on your description of the bumps being small, non-painful, and non-itchy, it is possible that these could be benign conditions rather than something more serious. Here are some common causes:
1. Pearly Penile Papules: These are small, harmless bumps that can appear around the corona of the glans (the head of the penis). They are often mistaken for warts or other lesions but are completely normal anatomical variations. They typically do not require treatment unless they cause cosmetic concerns.
2. Folliculitis: This condition occurs when hair follicles become inflamed, often due to infection. While you mentioned that you initially thought these bumps might be related to folliculitis, the fact that they are not painful or itchy makes this less likely. Folliculitis usually presents with redness and discomfort.
3. Sebaceous Cysts: These are small, non-cancerous lumps that can occur when sebaceous glands become blocked. They are usually painless and can appear anywhere on the body, including the genital area. If they become infected, they may become painful and require treatment.
4. Genital Warts: Caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), these can appear as small bumps or growths. They may be painless initially but can sometimes become itchy or uncomfortable. If you suspect this might be the case, it is important to consult a healthcare provider for evaluation and potential treatment.
5. Molluscum Contagiosum: This is a viral infection that results in small, raised, pearl-like bumps on the skin. They are usually painless and can resolve on their own, but treatment options are available if desired.
6. Lichen Planus: This is an inflammatory condition that can affect the skin and mucous membranes, leading to small, flat-topped bumps. It may cause discomfort or itching in some cases.
Given that you have already tried topical acne treatments without success, it may be beneficial to consult a healthcare provider for a proper diagnosis. A dermatologist or urologist can perform a physical examination and may suggest further testing, such as a biopsy, if necessary, to rule out any serious conditions.
In terms of management, if the bumps are determined to be benign, no treatment may be necessary. However, if they are causing concern or if there is a diagnosis of a treatable condition, your healthcare provider can recommend appropriate treatment options.
It is also important to maintain good hygiene in the genital area and avoid any irritants that could exacerbate the condition. If you notice any changes in the bumps, such as increased size, pain, or changes in color, it is crucial to seek medical attention promptly.
In summary, while small bumps at the base of the penis can be concerning, many potential causes are benign. A thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional is the best way to determine the exact nature of the bumps and to receive appropriate care.
