Are you pregnant?
Hello, doctor.
I previously asked some questions, and here’s a summary: My last sexual activity (including my boyfriend's fingers) was before November of last year.
The genital rubbing occurred in August of last year.
I took pregnancy tests at the end of September and the end of October, both of which were negative.
However, in late October, after leaving the test for at least two days (I'm not sure how many days, but I know it was a long time), a very faint line appeared.
But that same day, my period started.
My menstrual cycle from August to now has been as follows: August 12, September 12, October 19, November 20, and December 19.
Other than the 7 days of menstruation, I have not experienced any additional bleeding.
Recently, I caught a cold and visited a doctor who said I was coming down with something.
The next day, I started experiencing vomiting and diarrhea (a family member had gastroenteritis, so I’m not sure if I caught it from them).
Since I had just seen the doctor, I decided to buy over-the-counter medication, and after taking it, the vomiting and diarrhea stopped.
I have some questions for you, doctor:
Q1: Is what I experienced in December considered a menstrual period? It came a day early, but I’ve heard that having a period a week early or late can be normal depending on individual circumstances.
Q2: Does early pregnancy bleeding only occur in the initial stages? Given that my experiences were around the same time, it should not be implantation bleeding, right?
Q3: Could my vomiting and diarrhea be related to morning sickness? However, after taking medication, I haven’t experienced those symptoms again, and I didn’t have these issues before the cold.
Q4: Lastly, considering all of the above, is there still a possibility that I could be pregnant?

More Info
Dear Patient,
Thank you for reaching out with your questions regarding your potential pregnancy and the symptoms you are experiencing. Let’s address your concerns one by one.
Q1: Is what I experienced in December my menstrual period?
Based on the information you provided, it seems that your menstrual cycle has been relatively regular, with periods occurring approximately every month. A slight variation in the timing of your period, such as being a day early, can be normal and is often influenced by various factors including stress, illness, or changes in routine. Since you mentioned that you had a menstrual period in December, it is likely that what you experienced was indeed your menstrual cycle.
Q2: Is early pregnancy bleeding the same as menstrual bleeding?
Early pregnancy bleeding, often referred to as implantation bleeding, can occur when a fertilized egg attaches to the lining of the uterus. This type of bleeding is usually lighter and shorter than a typical menstrual period. Given that your bleeding occurred around the time you expected your period and was followed by a regular menstrual cycle, it is unlikely that this was implantation bleeding. If you were pregnant, you would typically expect a missed period or a positive pregnancy test before experiencing any bleeding.
Q3: Could my nausea and vomiting be related to early pregnancy symptoms?
Nausea and vomiting can indeed be symptoms of early pregnancy, commonly referred to as "morning sickness." However, since you mentioned that these symptoms occurred after visiting a doctor and were accompanied by diarrhea, it is more likely that they were related to a gastrointestinal issue, possibly due to a viral infection or foodborne illness, especially since you mentioned that a family member had gastroenteritis. If the symptoms resolved after taking medication, it further suggests that they were not related to pregnancy.
Q4: Considering all of the above, is it still possible that I am pregnant?
Given the timeline you provided, including the negative pregnancy tests and the occurrence of what appears to be a regular menstrual period, it is unlikely that you are pregnant. Pregnancy tests are generally very reliable, especially if taken after a missed period. If you are still concerned about the possibility of pregnancy, I would recommend taking another home pregnancy test, ideally a few days after your expected period, or consulting with your healthcare provider for further evaluation.
In summary, based on your description, it seems that you are not pregnant, and the symptoms you experienced are likely related to a gastrointestinal issue rather than early pregnancy. However, if you have any further concerns or if your symptoms persist, please do not hesitate to seek medical advice. It’s always best to consult with a healthcare professional who can provide personalized guidance based on your specific situation.
Wishing you good health and peace of mind.
Best regards,
