Missed menstruation?

On December 13, 2018, my period started.
I had unprotected intercourse on January 2, 2019, and I expected my period to arrive around January 10, 2019.
However, today is January 16, 2019, and it still hasn't come.
On the 10th, I felt symptoms similar to premenstrual syndrome.
I've been sleeping a lot lately, and I also had a little bit of alcohol on January 11.
I've been stressed due to recent arguments, but we reconciled yesterday, and my period still hasn't arrived.
Am I pregnant? If I am pregnant, are there any options to prevent the pregnancy?

Cc, 10~19 year old female. Ask Date: 2019/01/16

It's understandable to feel anxious when experiencing a missed period, especially when there are factors like unprotected intercourse and stress involved. Based on the timeline you've provided, it seems that your period was expected around January 10, and now that it's January 16, you are experiencing a delay. This could potentially indicate pregnancy, but it's important to consider other factors as well.

Firstly, stress can significantly impact your menstrual cycle. Emotional and physical stress can lead to hormonal imbalances that may cause your period to be delayed or even skipped altogether. The fact that you've mentioned recent arguments and feelings of frustration could contribute to this stress. Additionally, lifestyle factors such as changes in sleep patterns, diet, and alcohol consumption can also affect your menstrual cycle.

To determine whether you might be pregnant, the most reliable method is to take a home pregnancy test. These tests are designed to detect the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which is produced during pregnancy. It's best to take the test after your missed period for the most accurate result. If the test is positive, it would confirm pregnancy, and if it's negative but your period still doesn't arrive, you may want to consult a healthcare provider for further evaluation.

If you are indeed pregnant and are concerned about the implications of your recent alcohol consumption, it's important to note that while occasional drinking may not have a significant impact, it's generally advised to avoid alcohol during pregnancy due to potential risks to fetal development. If you have concerns about your health or the health of a potential pregnancy, reaching out to a healthcare professional is crucial. They can provide guidance tailored to your specific situation.

If you find out that you are pregnant and are considering options regarding the pregnancy, it's essential to have a conversation with a healthcare provider. They can discuss your options, including prenatal care, and any concerns you may have about your current emotional state and how it might affect your pregnancy.

In summary, while a missed period could indicate pregnancy, it could also be a result of stress or other lifestyle factors. Taking a home pregnancy test is a good next step, and if you have any concerns about your health or potential pregnancy, consulting with a healthcare professional is highly recommended. They can provide you with the support and information you need to make informed decisions moving forward.
