Narrow stools?

I first noticed an issue on New Year's Day in 2018 when I went to the bathroom and found that I could only pass a small amount of thin stool (without the feeling of incomplete evacuation).
My usual bowel habit is to have a bowel movement every morning, over 80% of the time, so this change was concerning.
As of today, January 20th, I am still experiencing intermittent episodes of passing thin stools.
A few days ago, after eating at a night market, I experienced diarrhea and fever, and even this morning, my stool is still thin and segmented.
I am very worried about the possibility of colorectal cancer, especially since I read that changes in stool shape can be a symptom.
I have been experiencing this symptom for about half a month now.
Should I continue to monitor this for a while longer? How long should I wait before seeing a doctor? (I have previously experienced rectal bleeding and underwent a colonography.) PS: There is no family history of colorectal cancer in my family.

Based on the symptoms, the likelihood of gastroenteritis accompanied by gastrointestinal dysfunction is higher.
It is recommended to consume a diet low in oil, dairy, and irritants.
If there is no significant improvement, a visit to a gastroenterologist is advised.

When it comes to changes in bowel habits, particularly the consistency and shape of stools, it is essential to pay attention to these changes as they can be indicative of underlying health issues. In your case, experiencing narrow, ribbon-like stools for an extended period, especially after a recent episode of diarrhea and fever, warrants careful consideration.

Firstly, it's important to understand that the shape and consistency of stools can vary due to several factors, including diet, hydration, and gastrointestinal health. Narrow stools can sometimes be a result of dietary changes or temporary gastrointestinal disturbances. However, persistent changes, especially those lasting more than a couple of weeks, should not be ignored.

Given your symptoms, including the recent history of diarrhea and fever, it is advisable to monitor your condition closely. If the narrow stools persist for more than two weeks without improvement, or if you experience additional symptoms such as abdominal pain, significant weight loss, changes in appetite, or blood in your stool, it is crucial to seek medical advice promptly. These could be signs of more serious conditions, including colorectal issues.

While you mentioned that there is no family history of colorectal cancer, it is still important to consider that colorectal cancer can occur in individuals without a family history. The fact that you have previously experienced rectal bleeding and underwent a colonoscopy indicates that you are aware of the importance of monitoring your gastrointestinal health. If you have not had a colonoscopy in the last few years, it may be prudent to discuss the need for another screening with your healthcare provider, especially given your current symptoms.

In general, if you notice any of the following, it is advisable to seek medical attention:
1. Persistent Changes: If the narrow stools continue beyond two weeks.

2. Accompanying Symptoms: If you experience abdominal pain, bloating, significant changes in weight, or any rectal bleeding.

3. Changes in Bowel Habits: If you notice a significant change in your bowel habits, such as increased frequency of diarrhea or constipation.

4. General Health Decline: If you feel increasingly fatigued or unwell.

In summary, while occasional changes in stool may not be a cause for alarm, persistent changes, especially those accompanied by other concerning symptoms, should prompt a visit to your healthcare provider. They may recommend diagnostic tests, such as a colonoscopy or imaging studies, to rule out any serious conditions. It is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to gastrointestinal health.
