What are the causes of lower abdominal pain?

I would like to ask the doctor.
My boyfriend and I had intercourse on April 20th without using a condom.
There was no ejaculation inside, and he pulled out before he ejaculated, but I am concerned about the possibility of pre-ejaculate fluid.
Could this lead to pregnancy? In the past few days, I have felt a slight pain and discomfort in my lower abdomen, near the uterus, but it only occurs when I think about this situation; if I don't think about it, I don't feel any pain.
Could this be due to my anxiety? My next menstrual period is expected around May 3rd.
Should I take emergency contraception? When is the best time to take a pregnancy test for accurate results? I am very worried about the possibility of being pregnant.
Thank you for your response, doctor.
🙏

Hello, the questioner: There is a possibility of pregnancy even if ejaculation has not occurred, as pre-ejaculatory fluid may contain sperm.
It is advisable to check for pregnancy if your period is more than a week late.
Additionally, there are many causes for lower abdominal pain, and if the symptoms worsen, it is best to consult a physician for examination and treatment.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health, Dr.
Zhang.

Understanding lower abdominal pain during pregnancy and the associated concerns can be quite complex, especially for those who are anxious about potential pregnancy. Let's break down your questions and concerns systematically.

Firstly, regarding the possibility of pregnancy from the scenario you described—engaging in sexual activity without a condom and the withdrawal method—there is indeed a risk of pregnancy. Pre-ejaculate fluid (pre-cum) can contain sperm, and while the chances are lower than with full ejaculation, it is still a possibility. If you are experiencing lower abdominal pain or discomfort, it could be related to anxiety about the situation, especially if you only feel it when you think about the possibility of being pregnant. This is not uncommon; anxiety can manifest physically, leading to sensations of pain or discomfort.

As for your menstrual cycle, if your next period is expected around May 3rd and you are concerned about being pregnant, you can take a home pregnancy test. These tests are most accurate when taken after a missed period, as they detect the hormone hCG, which is produced after a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. If you take the test too early, it may not provide a reliable result. Therefore, waiting until after your expected period will give you the best chance of an accurate reading.

Regarding the use of emergency contraception (like Plan B), it is most effective when taken as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse. If you are within the appropriate time frame (typically within 72 hours), it may be worth considering, especially if you are feeling anxious about the possibility of pregnancy.

Now, concerning the lower abdominal pain you are experiencing, it is essential to note that not all abdominal pain during early pregnancy is a cause for concern. Many women experience cramping or discomfort as their bodies adjust to the changes of early pregnancy. However, if the pain is severe, persistent, or accompanied by other symptoms such as bleeding, it is crucial to seek medical attention.
In summary, while there is a possibility of pregnancy given your circumstances, the pain you are feeling may be more related to anxiety than an actual pregnancy. If you are concerned, taking a pregnancy test after your expected period and consulting with a healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance would be prudent. Remember, it’s always better to seek professional advice when it comes to health concerns, especially those related to pregnancy.
