There is an additional layer of protruding tissue on the left nipple?
Hello doctor, I would like to ask about a grayish-white raised tissue that has developed on my left nipple.
I'm not sure if it is a fibroma.
The color is slightly grayer than the nipple itself.
When the nipple becomes erect and engorged, it enlarges along with the tissue, making the grayish color more prominent.
When the nipple is not erect and not engorged, it shrinks and feels soft, with the color more consistent with the surrounding area, although there is still a faint white appearance and slight irregularity of the nipple.
I noticed this symptom about four years ago, but I'm not sure if it has been there since childhood.
I discovered it because a few times while showering, I accidentally rubbed against it and felt a brief sharp pain, which went away shortly after.
I would like to ask the doctor if this tissue on the nipple could indicate any problems.
Is surgical removal necessary, or what kind of examination should be done? Thank you.

These symptoms do not resemble issues typically associated with male patients; they are more akin to conditions related to the female nipple and areola.
It is advisable for you to visit a specialist clinic for an examination before proceeding with any treatment.

More Info
When it comes to unusual growths on the nipple, such as the grayish-white bump you described, it's important to approach the situation with a clear understanding of potential causes and the necessary steps for evaluation and management.
Firstly, the growth you are experiencing could be a variety of things, including but not limited to a fibroma, which is a benign tumor made up of fibrous or connective tissue. Other possibilities include sebaceous cysts, papillomas, or even benign hyperplasia of the nipple tissue. The fact that the bump changes in size and color with nipple engorgement (when stimulated or during arousal) is not uncommon, as blood flow can cause swelling and changes in pigmentation.
Given that you have noticed this growth for about four years, it is essential to monitor any changes in size, shape, color, or sensation. The intermittent sharp pain you experienced could be related to friction or irritation, especially if it occurs during activities such as washing or wearing certain clothing. However, persistent pain or changes in the characteristics of the growth should prompt further investigation.
In terms of whether this requires surgical removal or further testing, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional, preferably a dermatologist or a breast specialist. They may recommend a physical examination and possibly imaging studies, such as an ultrasound, to assess the nature of the growth. In some cases, a biopsy may be necessary to definitively determine the type of tissue involved and rule out any malignancy, although the likelihood of a cancerous growth in this context is relatively low, especially given your age and the benign characteristics you've described.
As for treatment, if the growth is determined to be benign and not causing significant discomfort or cosmetic concern, it may not require any intervention. However, if it is bothersome or if there are any signs of infection or significant changes, surgical excision may be recommended.
In summary, while the growth you are experiencing may not be a cause for immediate concern, it is crucial to seek a professional evaluation to ensure proper diagnosis and management. Regular self-examinations and awareness of any changes in your body are vital for maintaining breast health. If you have any further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to a healthcare provider for personalized advice and support.
