Enlarged pores on the cheeks?
I would like to inquire about how many times I have undergone fractional laser, intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments, and chemical peels.
Due to living abroad, I am unable to have laser treatments regularly, but I do microneedling at home.
However, my pores are still quite enlarged.
This time when I return, I am considering whether I can undergo dermabrasion.
If the focus is solely on my enlarged pores, how effective would dermabrasion be? I am looking for quicker results and am okay with the recovery period.

Hello: Theoretically, fractional laser, chemical peels, and laser resurfacing can all improve enlarged pores.
It is recommended that you visit a medical aesthetic center or clinic for a comprehensive evaluation.
Thank you!

When considering effective treatments for enlarged pores, both microneedling and dermabrasion are popular options, each with its own set of benefits and considerations. Given your history of undergoing various laser treatments, including fractional laser and chemical peels, and your current practice of at-home microneedling, it’s understandable that you’re seeking a more immediate solution for your enlarged pores.
Microneedling involves the use of fine needles to create micro-injuries in the skin, which stimulates the body’s natural healing process and promotes collagen and elastin production. This treatment can improve skin texture, reduce the appearance of pores, and enhance overall skin tone. It is generally well-tolerated and has a relatively short recovery time, with most patients experiencing redness and minor swelling that typically resolves within a few days. However, multiple sessions may be required to achieve optimal results, and the effects can take time to become fully visible as collagen remodeling occurs over weeks to months.
On the other hand, dermabrasion is a more intensive procedure that involves the mechanical exfoliation of the outer layers of the skin using a rotating instrument. This method can effectively remove dead skin cells and promote the growth of new, smoother skin. Dermabrasion is particularly effective for treating deeper scars and can provide more immediate results compared to microneedling. However, it typically requires a longer recovery period, as the skin may be red, swollen, and sensitive for several days to weeks post-procedure. Patients may also experience some degree of peeling and flaking as the skin heals.
In your case, since you are looking for a quicker solution and are open to a longer recovery time, dermabrasion could be a suitable option for addressing enlarged pores. It may provide more pronounced results in a shorter timeframe compared to microneedling, especially if your pores are significantly enlarged. However, it’s essential to consult with a qualified dermatologist or skincare professional who can assess your skin type, the severity of your enlarged pores, and your overall skin condition before proceeding with any treatment.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that while both treatments can improve the appearance of enlarged pores, maintaining a consistent skincare routine is crucial for long-term results. Incorporating products that contain ingredients like retinoids, salicylic acid, or niacinamide can help manage oil production, exfoliate dead skin cells, and improve skin texture over time. Regular use of sunscreen is also vital to protect the skin from UV damage, which can exacerbate the appearance of pores.
In summary, both microneedling and dermabrasion can be effective for treating enlarged pores, but your choice should be guided by your specific needs, desired outcomes, and recovery preferences. A thorough consultation with a skincare professional will help you make an informed decision tailored to your skin’s requirements.
