Is circumcision necessary?
When I am not erect, my penis is about 4 centimeters long, and the foreskin covers a little more than half of the glans (which can be normally retracted).
However, when I am erect (15 centimeters), I can fully retract the foreskin, and it is neither loose nor tight.
Is circumcision necessary in this case?

When considering whether circumcision is necessary, it's important to understand the anatomy and function of the foreskin, as well as the potential medical indications for the procedure. In your case, you describe a situation where the foreskin covers part of the glans (the head of the penis) when flaccid but can be retracted fully when erect. This is generally considered a normal anatomical variant, and many men have similar experiences.
Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin and is often performed for various reasons, including:
1. Medical Indications: Conditions such as phimosis (where the foreskin cannot be retracted fully over the glans), recurrent infections (like balanitis), or other medical issues may necessitate circumcision. If you can retract your foreskin without pain or difficulty, and you do not experience recurrent infections or other complications, there may not be a medical need for circumcision.
2. Hygiene: Some individuals choose circumcision for hygiene reasons, as it can make cleaning the glans easier. However, proper hygiene can be maintained with the foreskin intact through regular washing.
3. Cultural or Religious Reasons: In some cultures and religions, circumcision is a common practice and may be performed shortly after birth or at a later age.
4. Personal Preference: Some men opt for circumcision for personal or aesthetic reasons. This is a subjective choice and varies from person to person.
In your case, since you mentioned that your foreskin can be retracted fully when erect and that it is neither too tight nor too loose, it suggests that you do not have phimosis or any other condition that would typically require circumcision. If you are not experiencing pain, discomfort, or recurrent infections, it may not be necessary to undergo the procedure.
However, if you have concerns about your foreskin or experience any symptoms such as pain, swelling, or difficulty with retraction, it would be wise to consult a urologist. They can provide a thorough examination and discuss your specific situation in detail.
In summary, circumcision is not universally required and should be based on individual circumstances. If you are comfortable and have no medical issues related to your foreskin, there may be no need for circumcision. Always consult with a healthcare professional to discuss your concerns and receive personalized advice based on your health and lifestyle.
