Are you pregnant?

Hello doctor, I had intercourse with my boyfriend on July 8th, and the condom slipped off, but there was only my own discharge and blood from the rupture of my hymen inside the vagina.
About 2-3 hours later, I took an emergency contraceptive pill.
On July 15th, I experienced bleeding similar to a menstrual period, which lasted about 8 days and included blood clots.
I took a pregnancy test again on August 23rd, and it still showed one line.
I have symptoms similar to polycystic ovary syndrome, so my menstrual cycle has been irregular, and I confirmed that I was not pregnant before July 8th.
I would like to know if I can be certain that I am not pregnant now, or if I still need to go to a clinic for an examination?

It sounds like you are experiencing a lot of uncertainty and concern regarding your potential pregnancy, especially given the circumstances surrounding your recent sexual encounter and the use of emergency contraception. Let's break down your situation and provide some clarity on your symptoms and next steps.

From what you've described, you had unprotected intercourse on July 8, during which the condom slipped. You took emergency contraception within a few hours, which is a responsible action to prevent unintended pregnancy. Following that, you experienced bleeding that resembled a menstrual period starting on July 15, lasting about eight days. This bleeding could be a side effect of the emergency contraception, as it can cause changes in your menstrual cycle, including earlier or heavier bleeding.

You mentioned that you took a pregnancy test on August 23, which showed a single line, indicating a negative result. Given that you have a history of irregular menstrual cycles due to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), it is important to consider that your cycle may not follow a typical pattern. However, the combination of taking emergency contraception, experiencing a withdrawal bleed, and receiving a negative pregnancy test generally suggests that you are not pregnant.

Despite this, if you continue to have concerns or if your menstrual cycle does not regulate itself, it would be wise to consult with a healthcare provider. They can perform a more sensitive blood test for pregnancy, which can detect lower levels of the hormone hCG than home pregnancy tests. Additionally, they can help assess your menstrual irregularities and discuss management options for your PCOS.

It's also important to monitor your body and any symptoms you may experience. If you notice any unusual symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, persistent nausea, or any other concerning signs, seek medical attention promptly.
In summary, based on your account, it seems likely that you are not pregnant, especially with the negative test result and the bleeding you experienced. However, consulting with a healthcare provider can provide you with peace of mind and help you navigate any ongoing issues related to your menstrual cycle and PCOS. Remember, it's always better to seek professional advice when in doubt about your health.
