Glans issues
I have noticed that over the past few days, there are many small white bumps of varying sizes on the glans and the inner side of the foreskin.
I'm not sure what they are, and sometimes they itch.
Could this be a sexually transmitted infection or something else?

Hello: If there is sexual activity, it is advisable to consult a urologist at the hospital.
If there is no sexual activity, it is generally a skin inflammation; you should maintain cleanliness and dryness.
If you have a foreskin, make sure the skin is not wet after urination.
Avoid wearing tight underwear, and rinse with clean water daily, then dry thoroughly.
If the skin becomes red, and the white spots increase in number or size, you should seek medical attention.
Wishing you good health.

Understanding white bumps on the glans (the head of the penis) can be concerning, especially when accompanied by symptoms like itching. It's important to approach this issue with a clear understanding of potential causes and when to seek medical attention.
The white bumps you are observing could be due to several benign conditions. One common cause is Pearly Penile Papules, which are small, harmless bumps that typically appear around the corona of the glans. They are a normal anatomical variant and are not associated with any disease or infection. These papules are usually asymptomatic and do not require treatment.
Another possibility is Fordyce spots, which are small, painless, pale bumps that can appear on the glans and shaft of the penis. They are sebaceous glands that are not associated with any disease and are also considered a normal variant.
However, if the bumps are accompanied by itching, discomfort, or other symptoms such as discharge, it could indicate a different issue. Conditions such as balanitis (inflammation of the glans), contact dermatitis (an allergic reaction to soaps, lotions, or other irritants), or sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like herpes or human papillomavirus (HPV) could also present with similar symptoms.
In the case of STIs, the presence of white bumps, especially if they are painful or associated with other symptoms like sores, discharge, or systemic symptoms (fever, malaise), warrants immediate medical evaluation. For instance, genital warts caused by HPV can appear as small, flesh-colored or white bumps and may be itchy or uncomfortable.
It is crucial to avoid self-diagnosing based on visual appearance alone. If you are experiencing discomfort, persistent itching, or if the bumps change in appearance, it is advisable to consult a healthcare provider. A medical professional can perform a physical examination, take a detailed history, and possibly conduct tests to determine the exact cause of the bumps.
In summary, while many white bumps on the glans can be benign and not a cause for concern, the presence of itching or discomfort suggests that a medical evaluation is warranted. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential, especially if an infection or other underlying condition is present. Always prioritize your health by seeking professional advice when you notice changes in your body.
