Urethral discharge of unknown origin?

Previously, I had yellow discharge, but after one menstrual cycle, it turned red.
I thought it was temporary, but it has remained red since then.
The discharge is somewhat thick, and I am certain it is not blood, nor is it vaginal discharge.
Although there is no pain or itching, it does have a slight fishy odor, which is not very strong.
Generally, this type of discharge should not occur, so I would like to know if it indicates any medical condition.
I have previously had a yeast infection, but I am unsure if this is related.
Even after the yeast infection was treated, the discharge did not go away, which is why I am seeking clarification on what this might be.

Hello, based on your description, the red discharge may be normal if it is not causing any specific symptoms; it might just be something you haven't paid much attention to before.
However, if you experience itching, dryness, or a feeling of tightness, it could be due to hormonal atrophy of the epidermal layer in the perineal area.
It is recommended to consult a gynecologist for relevant examinations (such as a pelvic exam, blood tests, etc.) to determine if treatment is necessary.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health.

When it comes to unexplained urethral discharge, particularly when there is a change in color from yellow to red, it is essential to approach the situation with caution and a thorough understanding of potential underlying causes. The fact that you have experienced a change in the color of your discharge, along with its consistency and odor, raises several important considerations.

Firstly, the presence of a red discharge that is not blood can be concerning. It is crucial to differentiate between various types of discharge, as they can indicate different conditions. The fact that you mentioned the discharge is somewhat thick and has a slight fishy odor suggests that it may be related to an infection or an inflammatory process. While you have ruled out blood and vaginal discharge, it is still important to consider the possibility of urethritis, which is inflammation of the urethra that can be caused by infections, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as gonorrhea or chlamydia.

The previous history of a yeast infection (candidiasis) may not be directly related to the current symptoms, but it is worth noting that recurrent infections can sometimes lead to changes in the normal flora of the genital area, potentially making one more susceptible to other types of infections. Yeast infections typically present with a thick, white discharge and are often accompanied by itching and irritation, which you have not reported in this case.

Given that you are not experiencing pain or itching, it may seem less urgent; however, the persistent nature of the red discharge warrants further investigation. The fact that the discharge has not resolved after the yeast infection treatment suggests that there may be another underlying issue that needs to be addressed.
It is advisable to seek medical attention from a healthcare provider, preferably a urologist or a gynecologist, who can perform a thorough examination and possibly conduct laboratory tests, such as a urinalysis or cultures, to identify the specific cause of the discharge. These tests can help determine if there is an infection present and what type it may be, allowing for appropriate treatment.

In summary, while the absence of pain or itching may provide some reassurance, the change in discharge color and consistency, especially following a previous infection, should not be ignored. Seeking medical evaluation is crucial to rule out any serious conditions and to receive the appropriate treatment. Early intervention can help prevent potential complications and ensure that any underlying issues are addressed promptly.
