Will this lead to pregnancy?
Hello, doctor.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.
My girlfriend's period started on January 22 and lasted for five days.
On February 14, we had sexual contact, but there was no penetration and no ejaculation near her genital area; there was only some external friction, and it seems that only a little bit may have entered.
My girlfriend is still a virgin.
I would like to know if this could lead to pregnancy.
In the first three days after that, my girlfriend started to feel some breast tenderness, but it wasn't severe and there was no pain.
She also experienced slight lower back discomfort.
Today, she mentioned that her breasts feel fuller and that they hurt a little when pressed, and she has a slight headache.
She said that she usually feels fullness before her period but without pain.
Could these be signs of early pregnancy?
Additionally, during her winter break, she has been going to bed around 5 AM and waking up around 2 or 3 PM.
Today is no different, and I'm wondering if her headache today could be due to oversleeping.
Does staying up late affect the timing of her menstrual cycle? Should we consider taking a pregnancy test? Thank you, doctor, for your time.

When it comes to the question of whether one can get pregnant from non-penetrative sex, it's essential to understand the mechanics of conception and the various factors that influence pregnancy risk. In your case, you mentioned that your girlfriend's last menstrual period started on January 22 and that on February 14, you engaged in non-penetrative sexual activity, which included some external rubbing without penetration or ejaculation near the vaginal area.
Firstly, the likelihood of pregnancy from non-penetrative sex is generally low, especially if there was no ejaculation involved. Pregnancy typically occurs when sperm fertilizes an egg, which usually requires sperm to be deposited in or very near the vaginal canal. In your situation, since there was no penetration and no ejaculation, the risk of pregnancy is minimal. However, it’s important to note that pre-ejaculate fluid (pre-cum) can sometimes contain sperm, although the quantity is usually very low. If any sperm were present in the pre-ejaculate and came into contact with the vaginal area, there is a very slight chance of pregnancy, but this is quite rare.
Regarding your girlfriend's symptoms, such as breast tenderness and mild abdominal discomfort, these can be associated with various factors, including hormonal changes related to her menstrual cycle, stress, or lifestyle changes. The breast tenderness she is experiencing could be a normal premenstrual symptom, especially if her cycle is approaching. It’s also worth noting that lifestyle factors, such as sleep patterns, can influence menstrual cycles. Irregular sleep, like staying up late and waking up late, can disrupt hormonal balance and potentially lead to delayed menstruation.
If her period is late or if she experiences any unusual symptoms, it would be advisable to take a home pregnancy test for peace of mind. Home pregnancy tests are quite accurate when taken after a missed period. If she is experiencing significant discomfort or if her symptoms persist, consulting a healthcare provider would be a good step to rule out any other underlying issues.
In summary, while the risk of pregnancy from the type of sexual activity you described is low, it is not entirely zero. Monitoring her menstrual cycle and any symptoms she experiences will provide more clarity. If there are concerns about pregnancy or her health, taking a pregnancy test and consulting with a healthcare professional would be prudent steps to take.
