Low Excitement Fluid: Should I See a Urologist? - Urology

Insufficient secretion during arousal?

Hello doctor, I am 19 years old and I masturbate about 2 to 3 times a week.
Recently, I noticed that my friend releases a lot of clear, sticky fluid when he is excited (he says masturbation is very convenient), and the amount is significant enough that it can be seen on the outside of his pants.
However, I do not have this type of fluid.
Should I see a urologist?

Dr. Li Xinyi reply Urology

Generally speaking, it is normal to secrete a small amount, and a low volume is not a concern; there is no need to see a doctor for this reason.

It's understandable to have concerns about changes in your body, especially at a young age. The fluid you are describing, often referred to as pre-ejaculatory fluid or pre-cum, is a normal secretion produced by the Cowper's glands (bulbourethral glands) during sexual arousal. This fluid serves several purposes, including lubricating the urethra and neutralizing any acidity that may be present, which can help protect sperm during ejaculation.

In your case, the absence of this fluid during arousal or masturbation does not necessarily indicate a problem. The amount and presence of pre-ejaculatory fluid can vary significantly from person to person. Some individuals may produce a noticeable amount, while others may produce very little or none at all. This variability is completely normal and can be influenced by several factors, including hormonal levels, hydration, and individual anatomy.

If you are experiencing no discomfort, pain, or other unusual symptoms, there may not be a need to see a urologist. However, if you have concerns about your sexual health, reproductive health, or if you experience any symptoms such as pain during urination, changes in urination patterns, or any unusual discharge, it would be wise to consult a healthcare professional. A urologist specializes in urinary tract and male reproductive health and can provide you with tailored advice and reassurance.

It's also important to note that sexual health is a broad topic, and many young people have questions about their bodies and sexual function. If you feel comfortable, discussing these topics with a trusted healthcare provider can help alleviate any concerns you may have. They can provide you with accurate information and guidance based on your specific situation.

In summary, the absence of pre-ejaculatory fluid is not inherently a cause for concern, especially if you are not experiencing any other symptoms. However, if you have any doubts or if your situation changes, seeking the advice of a urologist or another healthcare professional can provide clarity and peace of mind. Remember, taking care of your sexual health is an important aspect of overall well-being, and it's perfectly normal to seek information and support when needed.
