Questions about double eyelid surgery three months post-operation?

I would like to inquire about my experience three months after double eyelid surgery.
When I gently press on my eyes with a sponge while washing my face, I feel a slight pulling and stinging sensation at the crease (without rubbing).
Afterwards, there is a small red spot above my eyeball that returns to normal color in about five minutes.
Is this considered a normal reaction? I am concerned because it has been so long since the surgery, and I am wondering why I still experience this stinging and pulling sensation.
Could this have any adverse effects?

Hello: It may be related to the location of the suture line, but this still needs to be discussed with the surgeon at the time.

After undergoing double eyelid surgery, it is not uncommon to experience some discomfort, including pain and redness, even three months post-operation. The healing process for surgical procedures can vary significantly from person to person, and while many individuals may feel that they have fully recovered within a few weeks, others may still experience lingering symptoms for several months.

The sensation of pulling or slight pain when applying gentle pressure to the eyelid, as you described, can be attributed to a few factors. First, the surgical site may still be sensitive as the tissues continue to heal. Even after three months, the skin and underlying structures may not have fully regained their normal sensitivity and elasticity. The presence of redness that resolves quickly is often a sign of minor irritation or inflammation, which can occur as the tissues adapt to the changes made during surgery.

It is essential to consider the nature of the surgery itself. Double eyelid surgery involves altering the skin and muscle structures around the eyelids, which can lead to temporary changes in sensation and appearance. The pulling sensation you feel could be related to the healing of the sutures or the adjustment of the skin and muscle layers. If the sensation is mild and transient, it may not be a cause for concern. However, if the pain is persistent, worsening, or accompanied by other symptoms such as significant swelling, discharge, or changes in vision, it is crucial to consult with your surgeon or an ophthalmologist.

In terms of potential long-term effects, while most individuals recover without complications, some may experience issues such as scarring, asymmetry, or changes in eyelid function. If you are concerned about the possibility of these complications, it is advisable to have a follow-up appointment with your surgeon to discuss your symptoms and any potential interventions that may be necessary.

Regarding your question about whether this is a normal reaction, it is not uncommon for patients to experience some discomfort and sensitivity for an extended period after eyelid surgery. However, it is essential to differentiate between normal healing sensations and symptoms that may indicate a complication. If you have any doubts or if your symptoms are causing you significant concern, seeking a professional evaluation is the best course of action.

In summary, while some discomfort and redness can be expected three months after double eyelid surgery, persistent or severe symptoms warrant further investigation. Regular follow-ups with your surgeon can help ensure that your recovery is on track and that any potential issues are addressed promptly. Remember to communicate openly with your healthcare provider about your symptoms and concerns to receive the best care possible.
