Could Ai Qi Patches Delay Your Menstrual Cycle? the Effects - Obstetrics and Gynecology

Using the contraceptive patch for about two months, could it cause a delay in menstruation?

Hello, my last menstrual period started with a little bit of bleeding on February 15, and then I had a heavier flow from February 17 to February 22.
Since the amount was similar to my usual menstruation, I considered it my period.
However, by late March, my expected period had not arrived, and there was no sexual activity from February until the end of March, so I can rule out the possibility of pregnancy.
I previously used a product called Ai Qi贴 (Ai Qi patch), which helped with bowel movements.
Later, I found online that using Ai Qi patches or herbal products applied to the navel might delay menstruation.
I'm wondering if this could be the reason for my missed period this month, or if there could be other causes, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
I'm not sure about the reasons and whether I need to take medication to induce menstruation.
I hope you can provide some good advice.
Thank you!

Hello, theoretically it should not cause a delay in menstruation.
If it still hasn't arrived after a week, it is advisable to see a gynecologist.
Wishing you good health.

The question regarding whether Ai Qi Patches can delay your menstrual cycle is a pertinent one, especially for individuals who are monitoring their menstrual health closely. Based on the information provided, it appears that you have experienced a regular menstrual cycle in February, but your period has not arrived as expected in March. You have also mentioned using Ai Qi Patches, which are herbal patches applied to the skin, often marketed for various health benefits, including digestive health and menstrual regulation.

Firstly, it is essential to understand that menstrual cycles can be influenced by a variety of factors, including hormonal fluctuations, stress, changes in weight, and underlying health conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The fact that you have not engaged in sexual activity during this time does help to rule out pregnancy as a cause for your missed period.

Regarding the Ai Qi Patches, there is limited scientific evidence to support the claim that herbal patches can directly delay menstruation. However, some herbal remedies and treatments can have an impact on hormonal balance, which may indirectly affect the menstrual cycle. For example, certain herbs can influence estrogen and progesterone levels, potentially leading to changes in the timing of menstruation. Additionally, if the patches have a laxative effect, as you mentioned experiencing improved bowel movements, this could also influence your overall hormonal balance and, consequently, your menstrual cycle.

It is also worth considering that stress and lifestyle changes can significantly impact menstrual regularity. If you have experienced any recent stressors, changes in routine, or dietary adjustments, these could also contribute to a delayed period.
If you suspect that the Ai Qi Patches may be affecting your menstrual cycle, it would be prudent to discontinue their use and observe if your cycle normalizes in the following months. However, if your period does not arrive soon, or if you experience other symptoms such as significant pain, unusual discharge, or other concerning signs, it would be advisable to consult with a healthcare provider. They can perform a thorough evaluation, which may include a physical examination, blood tests to check hormone levels, and possibly an ultrasound to assess for conditions like PCOS.

In conclusion, while Ai Qi Patches may have some effect on your menstrual cycle, it is essential to consider other potential factors that could be contributing to the delay. Monitoring your cycle and consulting with a healthcare professional if the situation does not resolve will provide you with the best course of action. If you are considering taking medication to induce menstruation, this should also be discussed with your healthcare provider to ensure it is appropriate for your specific situation.
