Is there still a possibility of becoming pregnant?

I had sexual intercourse in early November, and my period came in February, but this month my period is late, and I'm worried I might be pregnant.
A few days ago, I used a pregnancy test, and it showed one line.
Today, I went to the clinic to see a doctor.
The doctor did not perform a urine test but did an ultrasound and said there were no abnormalities in the uterus.
Does this mean I am not pregnant? How long after taking menstrual induction medication should I expect my period to come?

T, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2020/03/26

Dr. Cao Guotao reply Obstetrics and Gynecology

Hello, it is likely that you are not pregnant.
After taking the medication to induce menstruation, you should expect your period to arrive within a week.
If it does not come after that time, it is advisable to consult a gynecologist.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to understanding pregnancy, delayed menstruation, and ultrasound results, it is essential to consider several factors that can influence these outcomes. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing a delayed menstrual cycle and have concerns about the possibility of being pregnant despite negative home pregnancy tests.

Firstly, it is important to understand that a missed period can be caused by various factors, including stress, hormonal imbalances, changes in weight, or underlying medical conditions. In some cases, women may experience irregular cycles that can lead to confusion regarding their menstrual health.
Regarding your situation, you mentioned that you had sexual intercourse in November and that your period was due in February but has not arrived yet. You also indicated that you have taken a home pregnancy test, which returned a negative result. Home pregnancy tests are generally reliable, especially when taken after a missed period. However, there are instances where these tests can yield false negatives, particularly if taken too early or if the test is not performed correctly.
You also mentioned that you visited a doctor who performed an ultrasound and found no abnormalities in the uterus. An ultrasound can provide valuable information about the state of the uterus and any potential signs of pregnancy. If the ultrasound did not show any signs of pregnancy, it is a good indication that you are not pregnant. However, it is essential to note that very early pregnancies may not always be detectable via ultrasound, especially if it is performed before the expected time of menstruation.

As for the use of medication to induce menstruation, it is crucial to follow your doctor's guidance. The time it takes for your period to return after taking medication can vary depending on the specific medication used and your individual response to it. Generally, you can expect your period to return within a few days to a couple of weeks after completing the course of medication, but this can differ from person to person.

If your period does not return after taking the medication, or if you continue to experience symptoms that concern you, it is advisable to follow up with your healthcare provider. They may recommend further testing or evaluations to determine the underlying cause of your delayed menstruation.

In summary, based on the information provided, it seems that the likelihood of pregnancy is low given the negative home pregnancy tests and the ultrasound results indicating no abnormalities. However, if your period does not resume after taking the medication or if you have any further concerns, it is essential to consult with your healthcare provider for additional evaluation and support. They can help you understand your menstrual health better and address any underlying issues that may be affecting your cycle.

Hello, pregnancy tests should be quite accurate. If the result is negative, an ultrasound is unlikely to show anything either. It is recommended to return to the original hospital for further evaluation. Wishing you good health.
