Infection issues after popping facial pimples?

Hello, a few days ago I squeezed a pimple, and after going out to the woods, it seems I got infected with something dirty.
The small wound from the pimple has become increasingly swollen.
Although it has reduced somewhat, there is now a small dark area, and I can feel a hard lump underneath.
Additionally, a blood vessel has also swollen; although it is not visible from the outside, I can feel it extending from the wound area towards near my eye.
The wound is located about three to four centimeters below my right eye.
I would like to consult on what I should do.
Should I see a doctor? It was painful a few days ago, but now it hardly hurts at all.

More Info

After a pimple extraction, it's not uncommon to experience some degree of irritation or inflammation at the site. However, the symptoms you are describing—swelling, a hard lump beneath the skin, discoloration, and the involvement of a nearby blood vessel—raise concerns about a potential infection or other complications.

Symptoms of Infection Post-Pimple Extraction
1. Increased Swelling and Redness: While some swelling can be expected, significant or increasing swelling, especially if accompanied by redness, may indicate an infection.

2. Discoloration: The presence of a dark area around the extraction site could suggest bruising or a more serious issue like necrosis or an abscess forming.

3. Pain: Initially, pain is common after such procedures, but if the pain subsides and then returns or if it changes in character (e.g., becoming sharper or more intense), this could be a sign of infection.

4. Hard Lump: The hard lump you can feel beneath the skin could be a sign of inflammation or an abscess. If it continues to grow or does not resolve, it warrants further evaluation.

5. Vascular Changes: The swelling of a blood vessel extending from the site could indicate a more systemic response to infection or inflammation.

When to Seek Medical Help
Given your symptoms, it is advisable to seek medical attention promptly. Here are some specific indicators that suggest you should see a healthcare provider:
- Persistent or Worsening Symptoms: If the swelling, redness, or pain worsens or does not improve over a few days.

- Fever: If you develop a fever, this is a clear sign that your body is fighting an infection and requires medical evaluation.

- Pus or Drainage: If you notice any pus or unusual drainage from the wound, this is a strong indicator of infection.

- Changes in Vision or Sensation: Given the proximity of the wound to your eye, any changes in vision or sensation around the eye area should be taken seriously.

- Duration: If the symptoms persist beyond a week without improvement, it is wise to consult a healthcare professional.

Potential Complications
Infections following skin procedures can lead to complications such as:
- Abscess Formation: A localized collection of pus that may require drainage.

- Cellulitis: A bacterial skin infection that can spread rapidly and may require antibiotics.

- Scarring: Infections can lead to more significant scarring than the original acne lesion.

- Systemic Infection: In rare cases, bacteria can enter the bloodstream, leading to more severe systemic infections.

Treatment Options
If you do see a healthcare provider, they may recommend:
- Antibiotics: If an infection is confirmed or suspected, antibiotics may be necessary to treat it.

- Drainage: If an abscess has formed, it may need to be drained to relieve pressure and remove infected material.

- Wound Care: Proper cleaning and dressing of the wound will be essential to promote healing and prevent further infection.

Conclusion
In summary, while some post-extraction symptoms can be normal, the specific symptoms you are experiencing suggest that you should seek medical attention. Prompt evaluation by a healthcare professional can help prevent complications and ensure appropriate treatment. Always err on the side of caution when it comes to potential infections, especially in sensitive areas near the eyes.
