Scalp nodules and weight loss?
Hello Doctor: Recently, I have been experiencing an itchy scalp for unknown reasons, and at night, it even becomes painful enough to prevent me from sleeping.
I also have small red spots on my neck that are itchy.
After seeing a doctor, I was told it could be due to shampoo or autonomic nervous system dysfunction.
My condition has improved somewhat, but my scalp still itches, and I have a lot of dandruff.
There are still many areas on my body with red, itchy spots.
What concerns me more now is that I have found hard lumps on my scalp, and I have recently lost weight for unknown reasons.
My menstrual period has also not come.
I have a habit of skipping dinner, but I did not previously experience significant weight loss.
I would like to know which specialty I should consult for these issues.
Thank you! I appreciate your help!

Hello! If you are experiencing unexplained weight loss, it is recommended to see a hematologist-oncologist to rule out any tumor-related issues.

More Info
It sounds like you're experiencing a combination of concerning symptoms, including scalp bumps, unexplained weight loss, and changes in your menstrual cycle. These symptoms can be distressing, and it's important to approach them with a comprehensive understanding of potential underlying causes.
First, let's address the scalp issues. Itching and the presence of bumps on the scalp can be attributed to several factors, including allergic reactions to hair products, scalp infections (like folliculitis), or skin conditions such as psoriasis or eczema. If you've recently changed your shampoo or hair products, it might be worth reverting to your previous products or trying hypoallergenic options. Additionally, if the itching persists or worsens, a dermatologist would be the appropriate specialist to consult. They can provide a thorough examination and possibly perform skin tests to identify any allergic reactions or infections.
Now, regarding the unexplained weight loss, this is a significant concern. Weight loss without a clear reason can be indicative of various health issues, including metabolic disorders, gastrointestinal problems, or even more serious conditions such as malignancies. Since you mentioned that you have a habit of skipping dinner, it's essential to consider whether this dietary pattern is contributing to your weight loss. While intermittent fasting or calorie restriction can be part of a healthy lifestyle for some, it can also lead to nutrient deficiencies and unintended weight loss if not managed properly.
The fact that your menstrual cycle has been affected is also noteworthy. Irregularities in menstruation can be caused by stress, significant weight changes, hormonal imbalances, or underlying health conditions. Given that you are experiencing both weight loss and menstrual irregularities, it would be prudent to consult with a healthcare provider who specializes in women's health, such as a gynecologist or an endocrinologist. They can evaluate your hormonal levels and overall health to determine the cause of these changes.
In summary, I recommend the following steps:
1. Consult a Dermatologist: For your scalp issues, including the bumps and itching. They can help diagnose any skin conditions or allergies and recommend appropriate treatments.
2. Visit a Healthcare Provider: Given your unexplained weight loss and menstrual irregularities, a visit to a gynecologist or endocrinologist is advisable. They can conduct tests to assess your hormonal levels and overall health.
3. Evaluate Your Diet: Consider keeping a food diary to track your eating habits and ensure you're getting adequate nutrition. Skipping meals can lead to nutrient deficiencies and may exacerbate your symptoms.
4. Monitor Your Symptoms: Keep a record of any changes in your symptoms, including the severity of itching, the appearance of bumps, and any further weight changes. This information will be helpful for your healthcare providers.
5. Manage Stress: If stress is a contributing factor to your symptoms, consider incorporating stress-reducing practices such as mindfulness, yoga, or regular physical activity into your routine.
It's crucial to address these symptoms promptly, as they may indicate underlying health issues that require attention. Remember, your health is a priority, and seeking professional guidance is the best course of action.
