Issues with the use of Shumeining?
I have a history of autonomic nervous system disorder and have been taking Smilon for about a month.
Recently, over the past two to three days, I have experienced a low-grade fever with a temperature around 37.4°C.
After researching online, I found that Smilon may cause side effects such as fever, stomatitis, sore throat, and bone marrow suppression leading to leukopenia during the 4-6 week treatment period.
I would like to ask the physician whether I should temporarily stop taking Smilon and opt for the cold medication prescribed by the clinic, or if there are better alternatives.
Thank you.

Hello, online user: This type of side effect is extremely rare.
In fact, I have been a psychiatrist for a long time and have never encountered it.
It is more likely caused by other physical reasons.
Moreover, a body temperature of 37.4°C may not be significant.
I recommend continuing to monitor the situation without the need to discontinue the medication.

When managing potential side effects from medications like Smilon (also known as sulpiride), it is essential to approach the situation with caution and informed decision-making. Given your history of autonomic nervous system dysregulation and the recent development of a low-grade fever (approximately 37.4°C), it is understandable to be concerned about the cause of your symptoms and whether they are related to the medication or an underlying infection such as a cold.
Firstly, it is important to recognize that while Smilon can have side effects, including fever, oral inflammation, sore throat, and even bone marrow suppression leading to leukopenia, these side effects are relatively rare. The fever you are experiencing could be attributed to a variety of factors, including a viral infection (like a cold or flu), a reaction to the medication, or even an unrelated health issue.
In your case, the fever is mild and does not appear to be severe. The recommendation from the physician you consulted suggests that the fever may not be significant enough to warrant stopping the medication immediately. Instead, monitoring your symptoms over the next few days is advisable. If the fever persists or worsens, or if you develop additional symptoms such as chills, significant fatigue, or respiratory issues, it would be prudent to seek further medical evaluation.
If you are considering taking over-the-counter cold medications, it is generally acceptable to do so, provided that these medications do not interact negatively with Smilon or any other medications you may be taking. However, it is crucial to consult with your healthcare provider or pharmacist before starting any new medication to ensure safety and compatibility.
Additionally, maintaining hydration and rest is essential when dealing with any form of fever or illness. If you suspect that your symptoms are due to a cold, symptomatic treatment such as decongestants, antihistamines, or pain relievers (like acetaminophen or ibuprofen) may help alleviate discomfort. However, be cautious with self-medication, especially if you are already on other prescribed medications.
In summary, while it is wise to be vigilant about the side effects of any medication, including Smilon, the mild fever you are experiencing may not necessarily indicate a serious problem. Monitoring your symptoms, maintaining communication with your healthcare provider, and considering symptomatic treatment for cold-like symptoms are appropriate steps. If there is any doubt or if your condition changes, do not hesitate to seek medical advice. Your health and safety should always come first, and your healthcare provider can help you navigate these concerns effectively.
