Sudden pressure on the pubic bone can cause pain?

Upon waking up in the morning, I suddenly noticed that pressing down on the area just below the pubic bone causes a bruised-like pain.
There is no pain or abnormalities during urination.
After pressing the area, it feels pain-free for a while, but then the pain returns upon further pressure.
There doesn't seem to be any swelling.
What could be the possible cause of these symptoms, doctor?

Sudden pain in the pubic area can be concerning, and it's important to consider various potential causes. Given your description of the pain being similar to a bruise when pressure is applied, along with the absence of pain during urination and no visible swelling, there are several possibilities to explore.

1. Musculoskeletal Issues: One of the most common causes of localized pain in the pubic area is related to the musculoskeletal system. This could include muscle strains, ligament sprains, or even issues with the pelvic floor muscles. If you have recently engaged in activities that involve heavy lifting, sudden movements, or even prolonged sitting, you may have strained a muscle or ligament in that area.
2. Pubic Symphysis Dysfunction: The pubic symphysis is a joint located between the left and right pubic bones. Dysfunction or inflammation of this joint can lead to pain, especially when pressure is applied. This condition is often seen in pregnant women but can occur in anyone due to trauma or overuse.

3. Inguinal Hernia: Although you mentioned that there is no visible swelling, an inguinal hernia can sometimes present with localized pain without a noticeable bulge, especially in the early stages. This occurs when tissue, such as part of the intestine, protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles.

4. Nerve Entrapment: Conditions such as pudendal nerve entrapment can cause pain in the pelvic region. This type of pain may not always be associated with other symptoms like urinary issues, making it a possibility in your case.

5. Infection or Inflammation: While you noted that urination is not painful, it’s still worth considering that infections (like a urinary tract infection or prostatitis in men) can sometimes present with referred pain in the pubic area.
6. Referred Pain: Sometimes, pain in the pubic area can be referred from other areas, such as the lower abdomen or even the hips. Conditions affecting the gastrointestinal tract, such as diverticulitis or appendicitis, can sometimes present with pain in the pubic region.

Given these possibilities, it is essential to monitor your symptoms closely. If the pain persists, worsens, or is accompanied by other symptoms such as fever, changes in bowel or urinary habits, or significant swelling, it would be prudent to seek medical attention. A healthcare provider may perform a physical examination, and if necessary, imaging studies such as an ultrasound or MRI to determine the underlying cause of your pain.

In the meantime, you might consider rest, applying ice to the area to reduce any potential inflammation, and avoiding activities that exacerbate the pain. Over-the-counter pain relievers may also help manage discomfort.

In summary, while there are several potential causes for your sudden pubic pain, a thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional is recommended to arrive at an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan.
