Nipple protrusion
I am 169 cm tall and weigh 67 kg.
I feel that my areolas are quite prominent.
When I press them or expose them to hot or cold temperatures, they slightly flatten, but soon they become prominent again.
When I press on my chest, I can feel something inside, but there is no pain.
I'm not sure if this could be considered gynecomastia.
My breasts are not particularly prominent, but the areola area tends to swell.
I would like to know approximately how much it would cost to have surgery to correct this condition.

Dr. Zhou Hongzhang reply Plastic Surgery
1.
This could potentially be gynecomastia.
2.
Generally speaking, males also have breast tissue, although it is not prominent, so the sensation of "feeling a mass when pressing on the chest without pain" may indeed be breast tissue.
3.
If it is large enough to be considered aesthetically unpleasing, surgical removal may be an option.
4.
The out-of-pocket cost is approximately $30,000 to $150,000, depending on the size of the breast tissue and whether hospitalization and general anesthesia are required.

Understanding prominent areolas can be a concern for many individuals, and it is essential to explore the potential causes, associated concerns, and available surgical options.
Prominent areolas can be influenced by various factors, including hormonal changes, genetics, and body composition. In your case, at a height of 169 cm and a weight of 67 kg, the prominence of your areolas may be related to hormonal fluctuations, which can cause the areolas to appear more pronounced. This is particularly common during puberty, pregnancy, or hormonal therapy. Additionally, the texture and elasticity of the skin can also play a role in how the areolas appear.
The sensation of a lump or fullness when you press on your chest could be related to glandular tissue or fat deposits. In males, this can sometimes be associated with a condition known as gynecomastia, which is characterized by the enlargement of breast tissue. Gynecomastia can occur due to hormonal imbalances, certain medications, or underlying health conditions. However, if you are not experiencing pain or discomfort, it may not be a cause for concern.
If you are considering surgical options to address the prominence of your areolas, there are several procedures available. The most common surgical intervention is areola reduction surgery, which involves removing excess skin and tissue to create a smaller, more aesthetically pleasing areola. This procedure can be performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of the surgery and the surgeon's recommendation.
The cost of areola reduction surgery can vary widely based on several factors, including the surgeon's experience, the geographical location of the practice, and whether the procedure is performed in a hospital or an outpatient surgical center. On average, the cost can range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more. It is essential to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in breast surgery to discuss your specific concerns, expectations, and the potential costs involved.
In addition to the surgical options, it is also worth considering non-surgical approaches. Some individuals may benefit from lifestyle changes, such as weight management or hormonal evaluations, which could help address the underlying causes of prominent areolas.
Before making any decisions, it is crucial to have a thorough consultation with a healthcare professional. They can provide a comprehensive evaluation of your breast tissue, discuss your concerns, and recommend the most appropriate course of action based on your individual circumstances.
In summary, prominent areolas can be influenced by various factors, and while they may be a cosmetic concern, they are not necessarily indicative of a medical issue. Surgical options are available for those seeking to alter their appearance, but it is essential to weigh the benefits and costs carefully. Consulting with a qualified healthcare provider will help you make an informed decision that aligns with your goals and expectations.
