Abnormal semen color?
Hello doctor, I previously asked a question (157343) regarding kidney inflammation and urethral inflammation that required hospitalization.
Before being admitted, I noticed an issue with yellow-green semen, and after being discharged (on June 6), this problem has continued.
As of today, June 25, the color of the semen has changed to a matcha green, which is concerning.
I also feel that my erections are not as quick as before (the engorgement seems slower, and it feels slightly softer than before).
What could be the cause of this? On June 17, I visited a urologist who mentioned that when I strain during bowel movements, there is yellow-green discharge from the urethral opening.

Understanding abnormal semen color is crucial for identifying potential health issues. In your case, the yellow-green color of your semen, which has progressed to a "matcha green" hue, raises several concerns that warrant further investigation.
Firstly, the color change in semen can be indicative of various underlying conditions. The most common causes of abnormal semen color include infections, inflammation, and other medical conditions. Given your history of kidney and urethral inflammation, it is possible that these conditions are contributing to the discoloration of your semen. Infections, particularly sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as gonorrhea or chlamydia, can lead to changes in semen color and consistency. These infections can also cause urethral discharge, which you mentioned experiencing during bowel movements.
The presence of yellow-green semen suggests a potential infection, as normal semen typically appears whitish or grayish. The greenish tint may indicate the presence of pus or inflammatory cells, which can occur in cases of prostatitis or epididymitis. Prostatitis, an inflammation of the prostate gland, can lead to symptoms such as painful urination, pelvic pain, and changes in semen quality. Similarly, epididymitis, an inflammation of the epididymis, can also cause discomfort and changes in semen appearance.
Additionally, you noted a change in your erectile function, describing a slower engorgement and a softer erection than usual. This could be related to several factors, including psychological stress, hormonal imbalances, or physical health issues. Infections and inflammation can affect blood flow and nerve function, potentially leading to erectile difficulties. It is essential to address these concerns with a healthcare professional, as they can provide a thorough evaluation and appropriate treatment options.
Given your symptoms, it is advisable to follow up with a urologist or a healthcare provider specializing in male reproductive health. They may recommend tests such as a semen analysis, urine culture, or imaging studies to assess the health of your reproductive organs and identify any underlying infections or abnormalities. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial in preventing complications and restoring your reproductive health.
In the meantime, it is essential to maintain good hygiene and avoid any activities that may exacerbate your symptoms, such as vigorous exercise or sexual activity until you receive medical advice. Staying hydrated and following a balanced diet can also support your overall health and immune function.
In summary, the abnormal color of your semen, combined with your history of kidney and urethral inflammation, suggests a possible infection or inflammation that requires further evaluation. Changes in erectile function may also be related to these underlying issues. Seeking prompt medical attention will help you address these concerns and ensure appropriate treatment.
