Is Post-Ejaculation Pain Normal? Expert Insights on Urological Concerns - Urology

Questions about post-ejaculation issues should be directed to a physician?

Hello, Doctor Du.
In the past couple of days, I have been masturbating, and during and after the act, I didn't experience any issues.
However, just now, I felt a slight pain on the left side of my penis near the base or around the vas deferens.
When I walk or lift my legs, the discomfort seems to lessen.
I have previously experienced a similar situation, where I felt mild pain in the genital area after masturbation.
A urologist advised me to exercise more and said there was no significant problem.
I would like to ask if this is considered abnormal after masturbation, and whether I should see a doctor again, or if I should follow the previous doctor's advice to avoid overdoing it and just exercise more to resolve it naturally.
Thank you for your response.

Hello: If your situation occurs occasionally, there is not much to worry about.
However, if it happens every time you masturbate, it may be advisable to reduce the frequency and engage in moderate exercise.
If the issue persists after 1-2 weeks, it would be better to seek medical attention.
Wishing you good health.

Post-ejaculation pain, while not extremely common, can occur for various reasons and may not always indicate a serious underlying issue. It’s important to understand the context of your symptoms and the potential causes.
From your description, it seems that you experience mild discomfort near the base of the penis or around the seminal duct area after masturbation. This discomfort is transient and lessens with movement, which is a positive sign. However, it’s essential to consider a few factors that could contribute to this sensation.

1. Muscle Tension: After ejaculation, the pelvic floor muscles may still be tense, leading to discomfort. This is particularly true if you have been in a position that strains these muscles during masturbation. Engaging in regular pelvic floor exercises, such as Kegel exercises, can help strengthen these muscles and potentially alleviate discomfort.

2. Prostate Health: The prostate gland plays a significant role in ejaculation and can sometimes become inflamed or irritated, leading to pain. Conditions such as prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate) can cause discomfort after ejaculation. If the pain persists or worsens, it may be worth discussing this possibility with a urologist.

3. Nerve Sensitivity: The nerves in the pelvic region can sometimes become overly sensitive, leading to pain after sexual activity. This can be exacerbated by anxiety or stress related to sexual performance or experiences.
4. Infection or Inflammation: While less likely given your description, infections of the urinary tract or reproductive organs can cause pain after ejaculation. Symptoms of infection often include persistent pain, burning during urination, or unusual discharge. If you experience any of these symptoms, it is crucial to seek medical attention.

5. Overexertion: If you have recently increased the frequency or intensity of your masturbation, your body may simply be reacting to this change. The recommendation from your previous doctor to engage in more physical activity is sound, as regular exercise can improve overall circulation and reduce muscle tension.

Given that you have already consulted a urologist who suggested that your symptoms are not concerning, it may be reasonable to monitor the situation. However, if the pain becomes more frequent, intensifies, or is accompanied by other symptoms (such as changes in urination, fever, or swelling), it would be prudent to return to a healthcare provider for further evaluation.

In summary, while mild post-ejaculation pain can occur and may not be a cause for alarm, it is essential to listen to your body. If you feel that the discomfort is affecting your quality of life or if you have any concerns, seeking a second opinion or further evaluation from a urologist would be a wise decision. Regular exercise, stress management, and pelvic floor strengthening can also contribute positively to your overall urological health.
