Epididymitis issues?
Since July 30, I have been experiencing a dull pain in my testicles, along with tenderness in my lower abdomen.
Initially, I thought I was overthinking it, but the pain has become more pronounced.
On August 4, I visited a urologist, who confirmed that I have epididymitis after performing a physical examination.
I was prescribed a two-week course of medication (Advil capsules and Sinlongo) and a seven-day supply of Depyretin.
Even after taking the medication until today, I still have pain in my testicles and lower abdomen.
I would like to ask the doctor how long I need to continue taking the prescribed medication before I can expect a reduction in pain and inflammation? I have read online that treatment for epididymitis may require six weeks or more of medication.

Hello: If you have been seen at a clinic, it is recommended to seek a diagnosis at a major hospital, as the duration of medication is long and an accurate diagnosis is essential.
Wishing you good health.
A few weeks is definitely necessary.

Epididymitis, an inflammation of the epididymis, can be a painful condition that significantly affects a patient's quality of life. The duration of treatment and the timeline for pain relief can vary based on several factors, including the underlying cause of the condition, the severity of the inflammation, and the specific medications prescribed.
In your case, you were diagnosed with epididymitis on August 4 and prescribed a two-week course of antibiotics (Adelphin capsules and Xinlongnuo) along with a seven-day course of Depyretin. Antibiotics are typically the first line of treatment for epididymitis, especially if it is caused by a bacterial infection. The duration of antibiotic treatment can vary; while some cases may resolve with a two-week course, others may require a longer duration, sometimes up to six weeks or more, particularly if the infection is severe or if there are complications.
Pain relief from epididymitis can take time. While some patients may start to feel better within a few days of starting antibiotics, others may experience persistent pain for weeks. It is essential to follow up with your healthcare provider if you do not notice any improvement in your symptoms after the initial course of treatment. They may consider extending the antibiotic therapy or switching to a different medication if the current one is not effective.
In addition to antibiotics, other supportive measures can help alleviate pain and discomfort associated with epididymitis. These may include:
1. Rest: Avoiding strenuous activities and giving your body time to heal can be beneficial.
2. Ice Packs: Applying ice packs to the affected area can help reduce swelling and numb the pain.
3. Pain Relievers: Over-the-counter pain medications, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, can help manage pain and inflammation.
4. Supportive Underwear: Wearing supportive underwear can help reduce discomfort by providing support to the scrotum.
If you continue to experience pain despite treatment, it is crucial to communicate this to your healthcare provider. They may want to perform further evaluations, such as an ultrasound, to rule out complications like abscess formation or to assess for other potential causes of your symptoms.
In summary, while a two-week course of antibiotics is a common initial treatment for epididymitis, the duration of treatment may need to be extended based on your response to therapy. Pain relief can vary, and it is important to maintain open communication with your healthcare provider regarding your symptoms and any concerns you may have. If your pain persists or worsens, further evaluation and adjustment of your treatment plan may be necessary.
