Is It Safe to Expose the Glans 24/7 Without Circumcision? - Urology

Is it necessary for the glans to be exposed for 24 hours?

I have not undergone circumcision.
When not erect, the foreskin can be easily retracted, and during an erection, it can also be pulled back to the coronal sulcus without pain.
I visited a doctor in elementary school, and the doctor said surgery was not necessary.
Now that I am 19 years old, the glans still cannot be exposed during an erection (though I can gently retract the foreskin with my hand).
I was wondering if I could pull the foreskin down to expose the glans, so I have been keeping the foreskin fixed at the coronal sulcus for 24 hours to keep the glans exposed (I have actually been doing this for a while).
I still clean it while showering.

It sounds normal; it's just that the foreskin is a bit longer than usual, and there's no need for the glans to be exposed all the time.
If there are real concerns, it's best to consult a urologist for further examination and discussion with the physician.

Exposing the glans (the head of the penis) continuously without circumcision can raise several concerns, both from a medical and a hygiene perspective. It is important to understand the anatomy and function of the foreskin, as well as the potential implications of keeping the glans exposed for extended periods.

Firstly, the foreskin serves several purposes. It protects the glans from friction and irritation, especially during activities such as walking or exercising. The glans is a sensitive area, and constant exposure can lead to discomfort or irritation. If you are able to retract the foreskin without pain when not erect, it suggests that you have a normal anatomical structure. However, if you are keeping the foreskin retracted for long periods, it may lead to issues such as irritation, dryness, or even inflammation.

From a hygiene standpoint, exposing the glans requires diligent care. The glans should be kept clean to prevent the buildup of smegma, a substance that can accumulate under the foreskin and lead to odor or infection if not properly managed. If you are washing the area regularly, this can mitigate some of the risks associated with exposure. However, it is crucial to ensure that the area is not subjected to excessive friction or trauma, which could lead to skin irritation or abrasions.

Another consideration is the risk of infection. The glans is more susceptible to infections when exposed, particularly if there is any underlying irritation or if the area is not kept clean. Conditions such as balanitis (inflammation of the glans) can occur if proper hygiene is not maintained. Symptoms of balanitis include redness, swelling, and discomfort, which may require medical attention.

Moreover, if you are experiencing any discomfort or if the glans becomes red or inflamed, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional. They can assess your situation and provide guidance tailored to your specific needs. It is also important to note that while some individuals may be comfortable with prolonged exposure, others may find it uncomfortable or may develop issues over time.

In summary, while it may be safe for some individuals to expose the glans continuously without circumcision, it is essential to consider personal comfort, hygiene practices, and the potential for irritation or infection. If you have been doing this for a while and have not experienced any adverse effects, you may continue as long as you maintain proper hygiene and monitor for any signs of irritation or infection. However, if you have any concerns or experience discomfort, it is best to seek medical advice to ensure that you are not at risk for any complications.
