Loss of appetite for two months?

Hello doctor, I have lost my appetite for two months.
It started suddenly around June 20.
I remember on the evening of June 27, I ate a bowl of noodles from outside and then felt a bit uncomfortable, but after drinking a sip of water, I felt fine.
However, the next day, I started to lose my appetite, and it has continued until now.
My weight has dropped from 91 kg to only 78.3 kg.
Sometimes I feel a slight urge to vomit when I eat, but I can manage to eat a little.
I'm not sure why I have lost so much weight so suddenly; I used to be a guy with a good appetite, but now I can only eat a small amount at each meal.
Could you please tell me what kind of illness I might have?

Loss of appetite, especially when it persists for two months, can be concerning and may indicate an underlying health issue. Given your experience of a sudden loss of appetite starting around June 27, along with significant weight loss from 91 kg to 78.3 kg, it is essential to consider various potential causes and seek medical evaluation.

1. Gastrointestinal Issues: The initial discomfort you felt after eating could suggest a gastrointestinal problem. Conditions such as gastritis, peptic ulcers, or even food intolerances can lead to a loss of appetite. If you are experiencing nausea or a sensation of fullness after eating only small amounts, it may indicate an underlying digestive issue that needs to be addressed.

2. Infections: Sometimes, infections—whether viral, bacterial, or parasitic—can lead to a loss of appetite. Gastroenteritis, for example, can cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, which may contribute to decreased food intake. If you have had any other symptoms such as fever, fatigue, or abdominal pain, these could point towards an infectious cause.

3. Psychological Factors: Mental health conditions such as depression or anxiety can significantly impact appetite. Stressful life events or ongoing mental health issues can lead to changes in eating habits. If you have been feeling down, anxious, or overwhelmed, it might be worthwhile to discuss these feelings with a healthcare professional.

4. Endocrine Disorders: Conditions affecting hormone levels, such as hyperthyroidism or diabetes, can also lead to changes in appetite and weight. If you have experienced other symptoms such as increased thirst, frequent urination, or changes in energy levels, these could be indicative of an endocrine issue.

5. Chronic Diseases: Chronic illnesses, including cancer, liver disease, or kidney disease, can lead to a significant loss of appetite and weight loss. If you have any other symptoms such as unexplained fatigue, jaundice, or changes in urination, it is crucial to seek medical attention.

6. Medications: If you are taking any medications, it is essential to consider that some can have side effects that include loss of appetite. Review any recent changes in your medication regimen with your healthcare provider.

Given the significant weight loss and prolonged loss of appetite, it is highly recommended that you consult with a healthcare professional as soon as possible. They may perform a physical examination, review your medical history, and possibly order laboratory tests or imaging studies to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms. Early intervention can be crucial in addressing any potential health issues and preventing further complications.

In the meantime, try to maintain hydration and consider small, frequent meals that are easy to digest. Nutritional supplements may also be beneficial if you find it challenging to consume enough calories. However, these should be discussed with a healthcare provider to ensure they are appropriate for your situation.

In summary, a loss of appetite lasting two months, especially with significant weight loss, warrants a thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional to identify and address any underlying health concerns.
