Glans issues
Hello Dr.
Liu: I am your patient.
Last time I visited you due to difficulty urinating, and I have improved a lot since then, but I still need to have a full bladder for urination to be smoother.
I also noticed that you are not as humorous as before! I do have a question for you.
I have a red patch from the glans to the groin that is a different color from the tip.
Can I apply Ecosone cream to it? I had a similar symptom before.
Or should I take Spasmo-euvernil tablets instead?
Zhao, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2003/01/18
Dr. Liu Jianting reply Urology
That's outrageous!! You didn't even say hello!! Using Ecosone is fine, but it's best to come to the hospital for a check-up to be safer.

Hello! Thank you for reaching out with your concerns regarding the redness you’ve noticed on your glans and the associated symptoms. It’s great to hear that your urinary issues have improved, but I understand that the discomfort and changes in color can be concerning.
First, let’s address the redness you’re experiencing. Changes in color or the appearance of redness on the glans can be caused by a variety of factors, including irritation, infection, or inflammation. It’s essential to identify the underlying cause to determine the most appropriate treatment.
Ecosone cream, which contains a corticosteroid, is often used to reduce inflammation and relieve symptoms associated with various skin conditions. If the redness is due to an inflammatory condition, such as balanitis (inflammation of the glans), using a topical corticosteroid like Ecosone may provide relief. However, it’s crucial to use such medications under the guidance of a healthcare professional, as inappropriate use can lead to skin thinning or other side effects.
On the other hand, Spasmo-euvernil tablets are typically used to relieve spasms in the urinary tract and may not directly address the issue of redness on the glans. If your symptoms are related to urinary spasms or discomfort, this medication might be helpful, but it won’t treat the redness itself.
Before proceeding with any treatment, I recommend the following steps:
1. Consult a Healthcare Professional: It’s essential to have a thorough examination by a healthcare provider, preferably a urologist or dermatologist, who can assess the redness and any other symptoms you may have. They can provide a proper diagnosis and recommend the most suitable treatment.
2. Avoid Self-Medicating: While it might be tempting to use medications you’ve used in the past, self-medicating can sometimes worsen the condition or mask underlying issues. It’s best to follow a professional’s advice.
3. Maintain Hygiene: Keeping the area clean and dry is crucial. Use mild, unscented soap and avoid harsh chemicals or irritants that could exacerbate the condition.
4. Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of any changes in symptoms, such as increased redness, swelling, pain, or discharge. This information can be valuable for your healthcare provider.
5. Consider Lifestyle Factors: Sometimes, factors such as tight clothing, irritants from soaps or laundry detergents, or even certain sexual activities can contribute to irritation. Identifying and modifying these factors can help alleviate symptoms.
In summary, while Ecosone cream may be beneficial for reducing inflammation, it’s essential to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any treatment. They can provide a proper diagnosis and ensure that you receive the most effective and safe treatment for your condition. Remember, addressing the root cause of the redness is key to finding relief and preventing future issues. Take care, and I wish you a speedy recovery!
