Bleeding from the urethral opening?

Hello, doctor: Last time after I masturbated, I went to urinate, and after I finished, I wiped my urethral opening with tissue, but there were traces of blood on the tissue.
This is the first time this has happened to me.
Although I haven't experienced any pain or hematuria since then, I'm unsure why there was bleeding from my urethral opening.
Could this be a sign of kidney stones? What should I be cautious about in the future when masturbating?

Nianqingren, 10~19 year old female. Ask Date: 2021/01/06

It sounds like the DIY approach was too rough, causing some injury and slight bleeding, which does not resemble the symptoms of kidney stones.
It's important to ensure adequate lubrication during DIY procedures and to avoid being too rough to prevent any injuries.

Urethral bleeding after masturbation can be concerning, especially if it is a new occurrence for you. There are several potential causes for the slight bleeding you observed, and it’s important to understand these in order to address your concerns effectively.

Firstly, the presence of blood on the tissue after wiping the urethral opening may be due to minor trauma or irritation. Masturbation, while generally safe, can sometimes lead to friction or irritation of the urethra, especially if excessive force is applied or if there is insufficient lubrication. This irritation can cause small blood vessels in the urethra to rupture, leading to minor bleeding. If the bleeding is minimal and does not recur, it may not be a cause for alarm.

Another possibility is that the bleeding could be related to an underlying condition, such as a urinary tract infection (UTI) or urethritis, which is inflammation of the urethra. While you mentioned that you did not experience pain during urination or any visible blood in your urine afterward, it is still possible for a mild infection to cause localized bleeding without other symptoms. If you notice any additional symptoms, such as burning during urination, increased frequency of urination, or any unusual discharge, it would be wise to consult a healthcare provider for further evaluation.

Regarding your concern about kidney stones, while urethral bleeding is not a typical symptom of kidney stones, it is important to be aware of other symptoms associated with them. Kidney stones can cause severe pain, often described as sharp or cramping, usually in the lower back or side, and may also lead to hematuria (blood in urine). If you experience any of these symptoms, it would be prudent to seek medical attention.

As for precautions during masturbation, consider the following tips to minimize the risk of irritation or injury:
1. Use Lubrication: If you find that friction is an issue, using a water-based lubricant can help reduce irritation during masturbation.

2. Gentle Technique: Be mindful of the pressure and technique you use. Gentle stimulation is less likely to cause trauma to the urethra.

3. Hygiene: Ensure that your hands and any objects used are clean to prevent introducing bacteria that could lead to infections.

4. Listen to Your Body: If you experience any pain or discomfort during or after masturbation, it may be a sign to adjust your technique or take a break.

5. Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water can help dilute your urine and may reduce the risk of irritation or infection.

If the bleeding recurs or if you develop any new symptoms, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional. They may perform a urinalysis or other diagnostic tests to rule out any underlying conditions. Remember, while occasional minor bleeding may not be serious, persistent or recurrent symptoms should always be evaluated by a medical professional to ensure your health and well-being.
