Is Fu'anmeng a natural progesterone?
Due to experiencing frequent lower abdominal pain at 13 weeks and 5 days of pregnancy while traveling, I consulted an obstetrician in that area.
The doctor prescribed a medication called "Fuanmeng," which is different from the common white pills.
Although the doctor referred to it as a white pill and it is a National Health Insurance medication, there is very little information available about it.
I would like to know if taking one pill each at lunch and dinner (and then stopping) without any bleeding will have any impact on the baby.
Could it cause any teratogenic effects? Is Fuanmeng a natural progesterone? Thank you.

Hello, if there is no bleeding, you can temporarily stop the medication and observe.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
Fuanmeng, also known as "Fuanmeng" or "Utrogestan," is a medication that contains natural progesterone, which is a hormone that plays a crucial role in maintaining pregnancy. It is often prescribed to pregnant women who may have low levels of progesterone or are experiencing complications such as bleeding or cramping. Your concern about its effects during pregnancy, especially at 13 weeks and 5 days, is valid and important.
Firstly, it is essential to understand that natural progesterone is generally considered safe during pregnancy. It is used to support the uterine lining and help maintain the pregnancy, especially in cases where there is a risk of miscarriage due to low progesterone levels. The use of Fuanmeng in pregnant women has been studied, and it is classified as a Category A drug by the FDA, which means that it has been shown to be safe for use during pregnancy based on controlled studies in humans.
Regarding your specific situation, since you mentioned that you were experiencing abdominal pain but did not have any bleeding, it is understandable to be concerned about the potential effects of the medication on your baby. The fact that you took the medication as prescribed by your doctor indicates that they believed it was necessary for your situation. In general, if there are no contraindications or specific warnings from your healthcare provider, taking Fuanmeng in the absence of bleeding should not pose a significant risk to your baby.
As for the concern about teratogenic effects (the potential to cause birth defects), studies have shown that natural progesterone does not have the same risks associated with synthetic progestins or other medications that are not recommended during pregnancy. Therefore, the likelihood of Fuanmeng causing any malformations or developmental issues in the fetus is low, especially when used under medical supervision.
It is also important to note that if you have any ongoing symptoms, such as abdominal pain, you should continue to communicate with your healthcare provider. They can provide guidance on whether to continue the medication or if further evaluation is necessary. Monitoring your symptoms and maintaining regular prenatal check-ups will help ensure both your health and the health of your baby.
In summary, Fuanmeng is a natural progesterone that is generally considered safe during pregnancy, particularly when prescribed by a healthcare provider. Your use of the medication, especially in the absence of bleeding, is unlikely to have adverse effects on your baby. However, always consult with your healthcare provider regarding any concerns or symptoms you may experience during your pregnancy to ensure the best outcomes for both you and your child.
