Anorectal foreign body sensation

I have been experiencing a frequent urge to use the restroom for the past few days, and at night, I often feel bloated and uncomfortable.
I visited a doctor, but over the last three days, I haven't felt particularly unwell; it's just that in the evenings, I have a slight bloated sensation.
However, since the night before last, I've had a feeling in my rectal area that resembles the sensation of having underwear stuck there.
Sometimes it feels like I need to pass gas or have a bowel movement.
When I saw the doctor a few days ago, he mentioned that my symptoms appeared mild and could be related to psychological factors.
I also underwent a stool test and am currently waiting for the results.
What could this sensation be? There is no pain or bleeding, just some mucus when wiping.
When I try to use the restroom, I only pass a small amount of mucus.
In the past, when I experienced this sensation, I could relieve it by having a bowel movement.

More Info

Understanding rectal sensations can be quite complex, as they can stem from various causes, ranging from benign to more serious conditions. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing a sensation in the rectal area that feels like something is stuck, along with some bloating and mucus discharge. Let's break down the potential causes and when you should seek further medical help.

Possible Causes of Rectal Sensations
1. Psychological Factors: As your doctor mentioned, psychological factors can significantly influence gastrointestinal symptoms. Stress and anxiety can lead to increased awareness of bodily sensations, including those in the rectal area. This can manifest as a feeling of urgency or discomfort without any underlying physical issue.

2. Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS): IBS is a common gastrointestinal disorder that can cause symptoms like bloating, gas, and changes in bowel habits. It can also lead to sensations of incomplete evacuation or the feeling of something being stuck in the rectum.

3. Rectal Prolapse: Although less common, a rectal prolapse occurs when part of the rectum protrudes through the anus. This can create a sensation of fullness or pressure. However, this condition is usually accompanied by other symptoms, such as discomfort or visible protrusion.

4. Hemorrhoids: Swollen blood vessels in the rectal area can cause discomfort and a sensation of fullness. While you mentioned no pain or bleeding, some internal hemorrhoids can cause mucus discharge.

5. Fecal Impaction: If stool becomes hard and difficult to pass, it can lead to a sensation of fullness or blockage. This is often accompanied by straining during bowel movements and can sometimes result in mucus discharge.

6. Anal Fissures or Infections: While you noted no pain or bleeding, sometimes fissures or infections can cause unusual sensations in the rectal area.

When to Seek Help
While your symptoms seem mild and your doctor has indicated that they may not be serious, there are certain situations where you should seek further medical attention:
- Persistent Symptoms: If the sensation continues for more than a few days without improvement, it’s worth revisiting your healthcare provider.

- Changes in Bowel Habits: If you experience significant changes in your bowel habits, such as diarrhea, constipation, or changes in the consistency of your stool, this warrants further investigation.

- New Symptoms: If you develop new symptoms, such as pain, bleeding, or significant changes in your mucus discharge, you should seek medical advice promptly.

- Impact on Daily Life: If the sensations are affecting your quality of life or causing significant anxiety, it’s important to discuss this with your doctor.

Conclusion
In summary, the sensations you are experiencing could be related to a variety of factors, including psychological influences, gastrointestinal disorders, or even benign conditions like hemorrhoids. It’s good that you have already consulted a doctor and are awaiting further test results. Keep track of your symptoms, and don’t hesitate to seek further medical advice if your condition changes or worsens. Remember, it’s always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your health.
