Penis Erection Angles: Is Yours Normal at 160°-180°? - Urology

Penile erection angle

Hello, doctor.
I am seventeen years old and in the second year of high school.
I have a question that has been on my mind for a long time.
Since I was young, my penis, when erect, goes from a downward position (0° pointing towards the ground) to almost touching my abdomen (about 160° to 180°).
However, it seems that many people have an angle around 90°.
I couldn't find much information online regarding this angle.
If I want it to point downward a bit more, it seems difficult due to the rigidity.
I would like to know if this is a problem.

Hello: The angle of the penis varies from person to person, and as long as sexual intercourse is possible, it is considered normal.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to the angle of penile erection, it's important to understand that there is a wide range of normal variations. The angle at which the penis points during an erection can differ significantly from person to person, and factors such as anatomy, genetics, and even the individual's level of arousal can influence this angle.
In your case, you mentioned that your penis reaches an angle of approximately 160° to 180° during an erection, which means it is almost parallel to your abdomen. While many individuals may experience an erection that points more towards a 90° angle, this does not necessarily indicate a problem. The key factor is whether you are able to achieve and maintain an erection sufficient for sexual activity. If you can do so, then your erection angle is likely not a cause for concern.

It's also worth noting that the angle of erection can be influenced by various factors, including the elasticity of the penile tissue, the presence of any underlying medical conditions, and even psychological factors. For instance, anxiety or stress can sometimes affect erectile function and the angle of erection.
If you are experiencing any discomfort, pain, or difficulties with sexual function, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare professional, such as a urologist. They can provide a thorough evaluation and address any concerns you may have. Additionally, if you notice any significant changes in your erectile function or if you have concerns about your sexual health, seeking medical advice is always a prudent choice.

In summary, while your erection angle may seem unusual compared to what you perceive as "normal," it is essential to focus on the overall functionality of your erections rather than just the angle. As long as you are able to engage in sexual activity without issues, your angle is likely within the range of normal variations. However, if you have any concerns or experience discomfort, do not hesitate to seek professional medical advice for reassurance and guidance.
