There is a red spot on the skin?

Hello doctor, I developed a small red spot on my arm about a year or two ago that is about the size of a mole, and it hasn't gone away.
It doesn't hurt, so I didn't think much of it.
Recently, over the past few months, I've noticed similar red spots appearing on other parts of my body.
I would like to ask the doctor what these red spots are.
Will they continue to multiply in the future?

Hello: Based solely on the textual description, it is not possible to diagnose skin diseases, but it is possible that it could be a cherry angioma.
If the skin condition does not improve or worsens, it is recommended to consult a nearby dermatologist for diagnosis and to assess whether further examination and treatment are necessary.
Thank you!

Persistent red spots on the skin can be concerning, especially when they appear over time and in different areas of the body. Based on your description, it seems you have developed small red spots that resemble moles and have noticed an increase in their occurrence. While it is essential to consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis, I can provide some insights into potential causes and considerations regarding these red spots.

One common cause of persistent red spots is cherry angiomas, which are benign growths of small blood vessels. They often appear as small, bright red or purple spots and can vary in size. Cherry angiomas are generally harmless and tend to increase in number with age. They are more common in adults and can appear on various parts of the body, including the arms, trunk, and face. If these spots are cherry angiomas, they usually do not require treatment unless they become bothersome or for cosmetic reasons.

Another possibility is petechiae, which are tiny red or purple spots that occur due to bleeding under the skin. Petechiae can result from various factors, including physical trauma, certain medications, or underlying medical conditions that affect blood clotting. If you notice petechiae, especially if they are accompanied by other symptoms such as bruising, fatigue, or changes in bleeding patterns, it is crucial to seek medical attention.

Dermatitis or skin inflammation can also lead to red spots. Conditions like contact dermatitis, eczema, or allergic reactions can cause localized redness and irritation. If you have recently changed any skincare products, detergents, or come into contact with new substances, this could be a contributing factor.

In some cases, persistent red spots can indicate more serious conditions, such as skin infections or autoimmune diseases. For instance, conditions like psoriasis or lupus can manifest as red spots or patches on the skin. If you experience other symptoms, such as joint pain, fatigue, or systemic changes, it is essential to discuss these with your healthcare provider.

Regarding your concern about the spots increasing in number, it is not uncommon for benign conditions like cherry angiomas to become more prevalent over time. However, if you notice a rapid increase in the number of spots, changes in their appearance, or any associated symptoms (such as itching, bleeding, or pain), it is advisable to consult a dermatologist for a thorough evaluation.

In summary, while many red spots on the skin are benign and not a cause for concern, it is essential to monitor their progression and any accompanying symptoms. A healthcare professional can provide a definitive diagnosis and recommend appropriate management or treatment options if necessary. If you have any doubts or if the spots are causing you anxiety, do not hesitate to seek a second opinion or further evaluation from a dermatologist. Regular skin checks and being aware of changes in your skin can help ensure any potential issues are addressed promptly.
