Numbness in the bladder?

In recent days, I have been experiencing pain near the lower right side of my abdomen, just below the navel, occurring about ten times a day.
There is also pain near the bladder area.
Today, I felt a tingling sensation in the lower right abdomen near the bladder.
Previously, I often felt the urge to urinate, but when I got to the restroom, I couldn't urinate or it took a long time with minimal output.
Normally, I would urinate about three times a day, but recently it has increased by 1-2 times.
I also feel a more urgent need to urinate.
I would like to ask the doctor what might be the cause.

Xiao Shi, 10~19 year old female. Ask Date: 2021/06/22

More Info

Bladder pain and urinary issues can be distressing and may stem from various underlying causes. Based on the symptoms you've described, including pain near the belly button, bladder discomfort, urgency to urinate, and difficulty urinating, there are several potential explanations and solutions to consider.

Possible Causes
1. Urinary Tract Infection (UTI): One of the most common causes of bladder pain and urinary urgency is a UTI. This infection can lead to inflammation of the bladder (cystitis), causing pain, frequent urination, and difficulty in urination. The urgency you feel may be a result of the bladder's irritation.

2. Interstitial Cystitis (IC): This is a chronic condition characterized by bladder pain, urgency, and frequency of urination without a clear infection. Patients often experience a feeling of pressure or discomfort in the bladder area.

3. Bladder Stones: These can form when urine becomes concentrated and minerals crystallize. They can cause pain, difficulty urinating, and may lead to infections.

4. Pelvic Floor Dysfunction: Issues with the muscles that support the bladder can lead to pain and difficulty with urination. This can be due to muscle tension or weakness.

5. Nerve Issues: Conditions affecting the nerves that control bladder function can lead to symptoms like urgency and pain. This could be due to conditions like diabetes or multiple sclerosis.

6. Gastrointestinal Issues: Sometimes, gastrointestinal problems, such as appendicitis or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), can cause referred pain to the bladder area, leading to confusion about the source of the pain.

Recommended Actions
1. Consult a Healthcare Provider: Given the persistence and nature of your symptoms, it is crucial to consult a healthcare provider. They may recommend a urinalysis to check for signs of infection, blood, or crystals in the urine.

2. Imaging Studies: If a UTI is ruled out, imaging studies like an ultrasound or CT scan may be necessary to check for bladder stones or other abnormalities.

3. Bladder Diary: Keeping a bladder diary can help track your symptoms, including frequency, urgency, and volume of urination. This information can be valuable for your healthcare provider.

4. Hydration: Ensure you are drinking enough fluids, as dehydration can exacerbate urinary issues. However, avoid irritants like caffeine and alcohol, which can worsen bladder symptoms.

5. Pelvic Floor Exercises: If pelvic floor dysfunction is suspected, pelvic floor exercises or physical therapy may be beneficial.

6. Medications: Depending on the diagnosis, your healthcare provider may prescribe antibiotics for a UTI, medications to relieve bladder pain, or treatments specifically for interstitial cystitis.

7. Follow-Up: If symptoms persist despite initial treatment, follow-up appointments are essential to reassess your condition and explore further diagnostic options.

Conclusion
Your symptoms warrant a thorough evaluation to determine the underlying cause of your bladder pain and urinary issues. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can significantly improve your quality of life. Don't hesitate to communicate openly with your healthcare provider about your symptoms, concerns, and any changes you notice. This collaborative approach will help ensure you receive the best possible care.
