Sudden chest pain?
Around 6 PM, while lying on the sofa and scrolling through my phone, I suddenly felt a tearing pain in my left chest, especially when taking a deep breath or raising my left arm.
There was no obvious point of tenderness, but sometimes when lying down, pressing on my chest caused a bit of pain.
After more than an hour, the pain almost completely subsided, and I hardly felt anything even with deep breaths.
Now, I only feel a slight soreness and weakness in my left shoulder, and my arm feels a bit numb after holding a tablet.
I would like to know what this might indicate.
(Earlier, around 10 AM, I sneezed with my mouth closed; I wonder if that is related?)

Due to your young age and the absence of chronic diseases, your risk of developing heart disease is low.
Many factors in daily life can contribute to this situation, such as emotions, stress, and irregular sleep patterns.
However, if symptoms persist, it is still advisable to visit a hospital for an electrocardiogram (ECG) examination.

Sudden chest pain can be alarming and may have various underlying causes, ranging from benign to serious conditions. Based on your description, the sudden onset of a tearing sensation in your left chest, especially during deep breaths or when raising your left arm, could suggest several possibilities.
One potential cause is musculoskeletal pain, which can occur due to strain or injury to the muscles or ribs in the chest area. Activities such as lying in an awkward position or sudden movements can lead to muscle strain. The fact that the pain lessened significantly after an hour and is now only associated with slight shoulder discomfort suggests that it may not be a serious issue.
Another possibility is costochondritis, an inflammation of the cartilage connecting the ribs to the breastbone. This condition can cause sharp pain that worsens with certain movements or deep breaths. It is often self-limiting and can resolve with rest and over-the-counter pain relief.
However, it is crucial to consider more serious conditions that could present with similar symptoms. Cardiac issues, such as angina or even a heart attack, can manifest as chest pain, especially if the pain radiates to the arm, neck, or jaw. Although your pain seems to have resolved quickly, it’s important to rule out any cardiac involvement, particularly if you have risk factors such as a family history of heart disease, smoking, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol.
Additionally, pulmonary conditions such as a pulmonary embolism or pneumothorax could also cause sudden chest pain, especially if it is associated with difficulty breathing. However, these conditions typically present with more severe symptoms and would likely not resolve as quickly as you described.
The sneezing you mentioned earlier could be related to a respiratory issue, such as a cold or allergies, but it is unlikely to be directly connected to your chest pain unless it caused a sudden movement that strained your chest muscles.
Given the variety of potential causes, it is advisable to monitor your symptoms closely. If the pain returns, worsens, or if you experience additional symptoms such as shortness of breath, dizziness, or radiating pain, you should seek medical attention immediately.
In summary, while your symptoms may suggest a musculoskeletal origin, it is essential to remain vigilant for any signs that could indicate a more serious condition. If in doubt, consulting with a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation is always the best course of action. They may recommend diagnostic tests such as an electrocardiogram (ECG), chest X-ray, or blood tests to rule out any serious conditions. Remember, it is better to err on the side of caution when it comes to chest pain.
