Will taking menstrual regulation medication cause weight gain?

My menstrual flow is very light each time.
After seeing a doctor and having blood tests, it was found that I do not have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), but my LH is higher than my FSH, although it does not meet the criteria for PCOS.
The doctor prescribed NORDRON (Norethindrone) and Estradiol 2mg.
I would like to know if taking these medications will cause weight gain or edema.

Long-term use of hormones can lead to edema, but it typically returns to normal after discontinuation for a period of time.

Taking Norethindrone, a synthetic progestin, can have various effects on the body, and concerns about weight gain and water retention are common among patients prescribed this medication. Norethindrone is often used to treat menstrual irregularities, such as heavy bleeding or irregular cycles, and can also be part of hormone replacement therapy.
Weight gain is a potential side effect of many hormonal medications, including Norethindrone. However, the extent to which it affects weight can vary significantly from person to person. Some individuals may experience weight gain due to fluid retention, while others may not notice any change in their weight. The mechanism behind this can be attributed to hormonal fluctuations that affect metabolism, appetite, and fluid balance in the body.

Water retention, or edema, is another side effect that some people may experience while taking Norethindrone. This can lead to a feeling of bloating and may contribute to temporary weight gain. The body may retain more sodium and water in response to hormonal changes, which can cause swelling in various parts of the body, particularly in the extremities.

It's important to note that these side effects are often temporary. Many individuals find that any weight gain or water retention resolves after they stop taking the medication or after their body adjusts to it. If you are concerned about weight gain or water retention while taking Norethindrone, it is advisable to discuss these concerns with your healthcare provider. They can provide guidance on managing these side effects and may suggest lifestyle changes, such as dietary adjustments or increased physical activity, to help mitigate any unwanted effects.

Additionally, it is essential to consider that weight changes can also be influenced by other factors, including diet, exercise, stress levels, and overall health. Therefore, it is crucial to take a holistic approach to health and wellness while on hormonal medications.

In summary, while Norethindrone can potentially lead to weight gain and water retention, these effects are not guaranteed and can vary widely among individuals. If you experience significant changes in weight or other concerning symptoms while taking this medication, consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice and management strategies.
