Vaccine-related
Hello, I received the AZ vaccine three days ago.
Before the vaccination, my blood pressure and pulse averaged between 75-85/50-60/60-70.
However, in the past few days, my pulse has been around 90-105, and I have experienced some mild chest tightness.
Should I seek medical attention for this? Thank you!

A pulse rate of 60 to 100 beats per minute is considered normal; however, if you experience any discomfort, it is still recommended to visit a hospital for an electrocardiogram (ECG) examination.

Post-vaccination heart rate changes can be concerning, especially when they deviate from your baseline measurements. In your case, you mentioned that prior to receiving the AZ vaccine, your pulse was averaging between 60-70 bpm, and now it has increased to 90-105 bpm. Additionally, you are experiencing some mild chest discomfort.
First and foremost, it’s important to understand that vaccines, including the COVID-19 vaccines, can elicit various physiological responses in the body. These responses can include changes in heart rate, which may be due to the immune response triggered by the vaccine. The immune system's activation can lead to an increase in heart rate as the body works to build immunity. This phenomenon is often temporary and resolves on its own.
However, the presence of chest discomfort alongside an elevated heart rate warrants careful consideration. While mild chest discomfort can sometimes be benign, especially if it is transient and not associated with other alarming symptoms, it is crucial to monitor your symptoms closely. If the chest discomfort worsens, becomes persistent, or is accompanied by other symptoms such as shortness of breath, dizziness, or fainting, it is advisable to seek medical attention promptly.
Given your recent vaccination and the changes in your heart rate, here are some recommendations:
1. Monitor Your Symptoms: Keep a close eye on your heart rate and any associated symptoms. If you notice any significant changes, such as a rapid increase in heart rate, persistent chest pain, or other concerning symptoms, do not hesitate to seek medical care.
2. Consult Your Healthcare Provider: It would be prudent to discuss these changes with your healthcare provider, especially since you have a history of heart-related issues. They may recommend further evaluation, such as an electrocardiogram (ECG) or a Holter monitor, to assess your heart rhythm over a longer period.
3. Stay Hydrated and Rest: Ensure you are well-hydrated and allow your body to rest as it recovers from the vaccination. Sometimes, dehydration or fatigue can exacerbate heart rate changes.
4. Avoid Stimulants: If you consume caffeine or other stimulants, consider reducing or eliminating them temporarily, as they can contribute to increased heart rate.
5. Follow-Up: If your symptoms persist or worsen, follow up with your healthcare provider for further evaluation. They may want to investigate other potential causes for your symptoms, such as anxiety, electrolyte imbalances, or other underlying conditions.
In summary, while some increase in heart rate post-vaccination can be a normal response, the presence of chest discomfort alongside this change should not be ignored. Monitoring your symptoms and consulting with a healthcare provider will help ensure that any potential issues are addressed promptly. Your health and well-being are paramount, so do not hesitate to seek medical advice if you feel it is necessary.
