Post-Vaccine Back Pain: When to Seek Medical Attention - Cardiology

Post-vaccination back pain

On October 13th at around 15:30, I received the second dose of the High-End vaccine.
After the vaccination, I was monitored and showed no adverse reactions.
I returned home without any issues, but during dinner, I noticed soreness and swelling at the injection site, with no other symptoms.
Later that evening, around 23:00, I experienced pain in my left back at the level of my heart.
The pain persisted even at rest and did not correlate with my heartbeat, but it worsened with changes in posture (the first dose only caused soreness at the injection site).

The following morning (October 14th at 07:00), I took one tablet of acetaminophen, which alleviated the pain, and I was pain-free at rest.
However, I still experienced pain with posture adjustments.
As of now (October 14th at 17:30), my condition remains the same.
I do not have significant chest tightness, but I have noticed an increase in my breathing rate.
My blood pressure is normal (I have previously sought medical attention for arrhythmia, which was deemed not serious and only required monitoring).

I came across news reports suggesting that post-vaccination back pain and chest tightness could be related to heart issues, which has caused me some concern.
However, the pain with posture changes feels more muscular in nature.
After consulting with 1922, I was advised that if my symptoms worsen, I should seek medical attention, but I am uncertain about which specialty to consult.
Therefore, I am here to inquire.

If symptoms continue to worsen, it is recommended to visit a cardiology clinic for further evaluation.

After receiving a vaccine, it is not uncommon to experience some side effects, including localized pain at the injection site, muscle aches, or even generalized discomfort. However, the symptoms you are describing, particularly the back pain that intensifies with movement and the sensation of discomfort at the level of the heart, warrant careful consideration.

First, it is essential to differentiate between typical post-vaccination reactions and symptoms that may indicate a more serious issue. Common side effects of vaccines, including soreness at the injection site, mild fever, fatigue, and muscle pain, usually resolve within a few days. However, persistent or worsening pain, especially if it is localized to the back and associated with other symptoms, may require further evaluation.

In your case, the back pain you are experiencing, particularly if it is not alleviated by rest and is aggravated by movement, could be related to muscle strain or tension, especially if you have adjusted your posture or engaged in activities that may have stressed your back. The fact that the pain is not associated with your heartbeat is a positive sign, as it suggests that it may not be cardiac-related. However, the increase in your breathing rate and the discomfort you feel when adjusting your position could indicate that your body is reacting to the pain or discomfort in a way that is causing you to breathe more rapidly.

Given your history of heart issues, it is prudent to err on the side of caution. While it is possible that your symptoms are related to muscle strain or tension, it is also important to rule out any cardiac concerns, especially since you have previously experienced heart rhythm issues. The recommendation to seek medical attention is appropriate, particularly if your symptoms persist or worsen.

When considering which type of healthcare provider to consult, you might start with your primary care physician, who can evaluate your symptoms in the context of your medical history. If necessary, they can refer you to a specialist, such as a cardiologist, if there are concerns about your heart, or a musculoskeletal specialist if the pain is determined to be related to muscle or skeletal issues.

In summary, while some discomfort following vaccination is normal, the persistence and nature of your back pain, combined with your medical history, suggest that a medical evaluation is warranted. It is always better to be cautious, especially when it comes to potential cardiac symptoms. Seek medical attention to ensure that any underlying issues are addressed promptly and appropriately.
