Itching of the glans?

Hello doctor, I have been troubled by itching at the base of my glans for a long time, and it usually occurs suddenly during intercourse.
The itching is extremely intense and even affects my ability to maintain an erection.
I don't experience this during oral sex, but it happens more frequently during vaginal intercourse.
I also don't use condoms, so it shouldn't be an allergy.
I don't have any unusual discharge, and this happens with every woman.
What could this strange condition be?

Hello Qoo,
Your issue seems to have a higher likelihood of being psychosomatic.
However, please visit a urology clinic for an examination and diagnosis by a specialist to rule out any physiological problems.
Wishing you good health!

Persistent itching at the tip of the penis, particularly at the glans (the head of the penis), can be a frustrating and uncomfortable issue. It is important to approach this problem with a thorough understanding of potential causes and appropriate management strategies.

Possible Causes of Itching
1. Infections: One of the most common causes of itching in the genital area is an infection. This could be a yeast infection, which is often characterized by itching and irritation. Bacterial infections, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like herpes or gonorrhea, and even fungal infections can also lead to similar symptoms.

2. Dermatitis: Contact dermatitis, which is an allergic reaction to substances that come into contact with the skin, can cause itching. This could be due to soaps, lotions, or even laundry detergents. If you have recently changed any products that come into contact with your genital area, this could be a contributing factor.

3. Poor Hygiene: Inadequate cleaning of the genital area can lead to the accumulation of sweat, bacteria, and dead skin cells, which can cause irritation and itching. Conversely, excessive washing or using harsh soaps can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation.

4. Skin Conditions: Conditions like psoriasis or eczema can also manifest as itching in the genital area. These conditions can cause red, scaly patches that may be itchy.

5. Phimosis or Balanitis: If the foreskin is too tight (phimosis) or if there is inflammation of the glans (balanitis), this can lead to discomfort and itching. This is particularly relevant if you are uncircumcised.

6. Sexual Activity: You mentioned that the itching occurs during sexual activity. This could be related to friction, irritation from sexual activity, or even a reaction to bodily fluids. If you are not using condoms, it is also possible that you are experiencing a reaction to a partner's natural flora.

Management Strategies
1. Hygiene: Ensure that you maintain good hygiene by gently washing the genital area with mild soap and water. Avoid using heavily scented products that may irritate the skin.

2. Avoid Irritants: Identify and avoid any potential irritants, such as new soaps, lotions, or laundry detergents. If you suspect a specific product is causing the issue, discontinue its use.

3. Moisturizers: If dryness is an issue, consider using a fragrance-free moisturizer to help soothe the skin.

4. Over-the-Counter Treatments: Antifungal creams can be used if a yeast infection is suspected. Hydrocortisone cream may help reduce inflammation and itching if dermatitis is the cause.

5. Consult a Healthcare Provider: Given that the itching is persistent and occurs during sexual activity, it is advisable to consult a healthcare provider. They can perform a physical examination, take a detailed history, and possibly conduct tests to determine the underlying cause. This may include swabs for infections or allergy testing.

6. Sexual Health: If sexually transmitted infections are a concern, it is important to get tested and discuss safe sex practices with your partner(s). Using condoms can help prevent irritation and reduce the risk of STIs.

Conclusion
Persistent itching at the tip of the penis can be caused by a variety of factors, including infections, dermatitis, and hygiene issues. It is essential to identify the underlying cause to address the problem effectively. If self-care measures do not alleviate the symptoms, or if the itching is accompanied by other concerning symptoms (such as discharge, pain, or swelling), seeking medical advice is crucial for proper diagnosis and treatment. Remember, open communication with your healthcare provider about your symptoms and sexual health is key to finding a solution.
