A white bump near the anus that resembles a pimple?

Doctor, I’m sorry, but yesterday while I was showering, I noticed a small white bump near my anus that looks similar to a pimple, measuring less than 0.5 centimeters.
Could this be folliculitis, or is it a fistula? It burst on its own later.
At the time, it was painful when I touched it, but when I got up later, it was only slightly swollen and no longer painful.

Hello: Please take a moment to check with the Department of Colorectal Surgery at Changhua Hospital, as the Ministry of Health and Welfare is concerned about your external hemorrhoid embolization.

More Info

When you notice a white bump near the anus, it can be concerning and may lead to questions about its nature. Based on your description, it sounds like you might be dealing with a condition such as folliculitis, which is an inflammation of the hair follicles, or possibly a different type of skin lesion.
Folliculitis typically presents as small, red, or white bumps that can resemble acne. These bumps can be itchy or painful, and they may sometimes contain pus. They often occur in areas where hair follicles are present, including the genital and anal regions. The fact that your bump was painful and then burst suggests that it could be an inflamed follicle or a small cyst that became infected.

Another possibility is a sebaceous cyst, which is a non-cancerous lump beneath the skin that can occur anywhere on the body, including near the anus. These cysts are usually painless unless they become infected, in which case they can become red, swollen, and tender.

If the bump has resolved on its own and you are no longer experiencing pain, it may not be a cause for concern. However, if you notice any recurrence, increased pain, or other symptoms such as bleeding, discharge, or changes in bowel habits, it would be wise to consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation.
In terms of treatment, if it is indeed folliculitis, maintaining good hygiene and avoiding tight clothing can help prevent further irritation. Over-the-counter topical antibiotics or antiseptics may also be beneficial. If the condition persists or worsens, a healthcare provider may prescribe oral antibiotics or recommend other treatments.

It's important to remember that while many skin conditions are benign, some can indicate underlying issues, especially in sensitive areas like the anal region. Therefore, if you have any doubts or if the bump does not improve, seeking medical advice is always a prudent choice.
In summary, while your symptoms may suggest folliculitis or a similar benign condition, ongoing monitoring and consultation with a healthcare provider are essential to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment.
