Blurred vision and difficulty breathing?

Hello doctor, in the past month, I have experienced two episodes of sudden blurred vision with a white appearance, dizziness, shortness of breath, cold sweats, weakness, tightness in the back of my neck, and numbness in my limbs.
I feel like I can't get enough air when breathing through my nose, and when I switch to breathing through my mouth, I have a sensation of something stuck in my throat.
My profession is a chef, and these symptoms occur only while I am preparing ingredients, which requires me to bend down to cut vegetables.
Although I have experienced similar symptoms occasionally in the past, this is the first time they have occurred twice within a month.
Should I seek medical attention?

Hello: It is recommended to first see a cardiologist.
If there are no major issues, then you can switch to a pulmonology outpatient clinic.

It sounds like you are experiencing a concerning set of symptoms that include blurred vision, dizziness, breathing difficulties, cold sweats, weakness, neck tightness, and tingling in your limbs. Given the nature and frequency of these symptoms, it is crucial to seek medical attention as soon as possible.

The symptoms you describe could be indicative of several potential medical issues. For instance, the combination of blurred vision and dizziness may suggest a transient ischemic attack (TIA), often referred to as a "mini-stroke." TIAs can present with sudden changes in vision, weakness, and other neurological symptoms, and they require immediate evaluation. Additionally, the breathing difficulties and the sensation of an obstruction in your throat could point to an anxiety-related response, especially in a high-stress environment like a kitchen, but they could also indicate a more serious condition such as an allergic reaction or even a respiratory issue.

As a chef, you are likely exposed to various allergens and irritants, which could contribute to respiratory symptoms. If you are cutting ingredients that release strong odors or particles, this could trigger an asthma-like response or an allergic reaction, leading to the symptoms you are experiencing. The tightness in your neck and the tingling in your limbs could also be signs of hyperventilation, which often occurs during episodes of anxiety or panic.

Given that these symptoms have occurred twice in a month, it is essential not to ignore them. You should schedule an appointment with a healthcare professional, preferably a primary care physician or a neurologist, who can conduct a thorough evaluation. They may recommend tests such as blood work, imaging studies (like a CT or MRI scan), or pulmonary function tests to rule out any serious underlying conditions.

In the meantime, consider keeping a symptom diary. Note when the symptoms occur, their duration, and any potential triggers (such as specific foods, stress levels, or environmental factors). This information can be invaluable to your healthcare provider in determining the cause of your symptoms.

If you experience any worsening of your symptoms, such as prolonged blurred vision, severe headache, difficulty speaking, or weakness on one side of your body, seek emergency medical attention immediately. These could be signs of a more serious condition that requires urgent care.

In summary, your symptoms warrant a medical evaluation. Do not hesitate to seek help, as early intervention can be crucial in addressing potential health issues. Your health is paramount, and understanding the root cause of these symptoms will help you manage them effectively and ensure your safety in your work environment.
