Regarding blurred vision?
I have been experiencing severe blurred vision recently.
About six months ago, I underwent several eye-related examinations at a local hospital and a medical center, but the cause could not be determined.
The tests performed included dilation, intraocular pressure measurement, visual acuity assessment, CT scans, and MRI.
Since my vision continues to deteriorate and the cause remains unknown, I would like to seek guidance from a physician.
I do not have any internal medicine, immune system, or genetic disorders.
I hope to identify the cause as soon as possible and receive appropriate treatment.
Thank you.

Hello: If you have been experiencing blurred vision for the past six months and detailed examinations at a regional hospital and a medical center's ophthalmology department have not identified a specific pathology, it is possible that an abnormal manifestation due to genetic issues is occurring (which may not necessarily be hereditary, as some cases involve acquired genetic mutations).
It would be advisable to consult with specialists in neuro-ophthalmology or retinal diseases at the relevant hospital's ophthalmology department for further insights.
Any pathological changes that cause eye-related issues should be addressed promptly to avoid delaying treatment.
Wishing you good health.

Blurry vision can be a frustrating and concerning symptom, especially when extensive testing has not yielded a clear diagnosis. Based on your description, it seems you have undergone a comprehensive evaluation, including dilation, intraocular pressure measurement, visual acuity tests, CT scans, and MRIs, yet the cause of your blurry vision remains elusive.
First, it’s important to understand that blurry vision can arise from a variety of factors, including refractive errors (like myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism), cataracts, retinal issues, or even neurological conditions. Given that you have already ruled out systemic diseases and genetic disorders, we can focus on ocular causes.
1. Refractive Errors: Even if you have had your vision tested, it’s worth considering that your prescription may have changed, or that you might have an undiagnosed refractive error. Regular eye exams are crucial, especially if you notice changes in your vision.
2. Cataracts: These can develop gradually and lead to blurry vision. They are often associated with aging but can also occur due to trauma or other factors. If your eye examinations did not include a thorough assessment of the lens, it might be worth revisiting this possibility.
3. Retinal Issues: Conditions such as retinal detachment, macular degeneration, or diabetic retinopathy can lead to significant visual disturbances. If you have not had a dilated fundus examination recently, this could be a critical step in identifying potential retinal problems.
4. Optic Nerve Issues: Conditions affecting the optic nerve, such as optic neuritis or glaucoma, can also result in blurry vision. An assessment of the optic nerve head during a comprehensive eye exam is essential.
5. Neurological Factors: Since you have undergone MRI scans, it is likely that any significant neurological issues have been ruled out. However, subtle changes in the brain can sometimes affect vision, so discussing your symptoms with a neurologist may provide additional insights.
6. Dry Eye Syndrome: This is a common condition that can cause blurry vision, especially with prolonged screen time or environmental factors. If you experience discomfort or a gritty sensation in your eyes, this could be a contributing factor.
7. Visual Processing Issues: Sometimes, the problem may not be with the eyes themselves but rather how the brain processes visual information. This can be evaluated through specialized tests.
Given your situation, here are some steps you can take:
- Follow-Up with an Eye Specialist: If you haven’t already, consider seeing a retinal specialist or a neuro-ophthalmologist for a more in-depth evaluation. They may have access to advanced imaging techniques that can provide further insights.
- Keep a Symptom Diary: Documenting when your blurry vision occurs, any associated symptoms (like headaches or eye strain), and activities you were engaged in can help your healthcare provider identify patterns and potential triggers.
- Consider Lifestyle Factors: Ensure you are taking regular breaks from screens (the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds), stay hydrated, and maintain a healthy diet rich in vitamins beneficial for eye health (like Vitamin A, C, and omega-3 fatty acids).
- Explore Treatment Options: Depending on the underlying cause, treatment may range from corrective lenses to medications or even surgical interventions. If dry eye is a concern, artificial tears or prescription eye drops may be beneficial.
In conclusion, while it can be disheartening to experience blurry vision without a clear diagnosis, continued communication with your healthcare providers and possibly seeking a second opinion can be crucial in identifying the underlying issue. Remember, your vision is vital, and persistent symptoms warrant thorough investigation and appropriate management.
