Post-circumcision care
Doctor, it has been six months since I had my circumcision.
The swelling in other areas has mostly subsided, but I still feel that the area around the frenulum is somewhat fleshy when I'm not erect.
However, when I am erect, it appears flat.
Is this due to some extra skin that the doctor left during the procedure?

Hello: Due to the elasticity of the foreskin, it is common to observe this phenomenon around the wound.
As for whether the surgeon left more tissue, you may want to consult with the operating physician.
Wishing you good health.

Understanding post-circumcision sensations and healing is essential for patients who have undergone this procedure. After circumcision, it is common for individuals to experience various sensations and changes in the anatomy of the penis as it heals.
In your case, it sounds like you are experiencing some residual sensitivity or a feeling of excess skin around the frenulum (the band of tissue on the underside of the penis). This sensation can be attributed to several factors related to the healing process and the surgical technique used during the circumcision.
1. Healing Process: After circumcision, the skin and tissues undergo a healing process that can take several weeks to months. During this time, it is normal to feel some differences in texture and sensitivity. The area around the frenulum may feel different, especially if there was swelling or if the skin was manipulated during the procedure.
2. Residual Skin: If the surgeon left some skin during the procedure, it could lead to a feeling of "extra" skin when the penis is not erect. This is not uncommon, as some surgeons may choose to leave a bit of skin to ensure that the circumcision is not too tight, which can lead to complications later on. When you are erect, the skin stretches, and this may explain why it appears flatter.
3. Sensitivity: The frenulum is a sensitive area, and after circumcision, the sensation in this region can change. Some men report increased sensitivity, while others may feel a decrease. If you are feeling that the area is "meatier" or different when not erect, it could be due to the way the skin has healed or the amount of skin that was left behind.
4. Consultation with a Specialist: If you are concerned about the sensations you are experiencing or if they are causing discomfort, it is advisable to consult with a urologist or the surgeon who performed your circumcision. They can provide a thorough examination and determine if what you are experiencing is within the normal range of healing or if any further intervention is needed.
5. Post-Operative Care: It is also important to follow any post-operative care instructions provided by your surgeon. Proper hygiene and care can help ensure that the area heals correctly and can minimize any discomfort or unusual sensations.
In summary, what you are experiencing may be a normal part of the healing process after circumcision, particularly if some skin was intentionally left behind. However, if you have concerns or if the sensations are bothersome, seeking medical advice is the best course of action. A healthcare professional can assess your situation and provide guidance tailored to your specific needs.
