Concerns About Erectile Issues at 24: Seeking Answers and Solutions - Urology

I'm really worried about my health..?

I'm 24 years old and currently preparing for graduate school entrance exams.
I started having sexual experiences a little over a year ago, but I've only had two encounters.
In both instances, my erection didn't last long enough, and it would go soft before penetration or immediately after starting.
However, I can still ejaculate normally.
My penis size is normal, and I don't have any other health issues.
I initially thought it might be caused by high blood pressure, but even after my blood pressure normalized, the problem persisted.
I'm 172 cm tall and weigh 68 kg, and I don't exercise regularly.
I usually go to bed around midnight and often feel fatigued, but I occasionally have erections that last only a few seconds before going soft.
Recently, I've started exercising every other day for about 30 minutes, but even during masturbation, it takes about 1.5 minutes to achieve an erection, which then quickly goes soft.
During masturbation, I feel a pulsing sensation in my penis, similar to the feeling of blood vessels in my arm, before it gradually softens.
This has made me hesitant to pursue a girlfriend.
In middle school, I used to have strong and lasting erections.
I also engaged in daily masturbation for 2.5 months, but recently I've experienced a lack of sexual desire, and I don't feel much during intercourse or when watching adult films.
Is this erectile dysfunction or impotence? Do I need medication? Can it be treated? I'm still so young, and I'm really worried about my health.

Male sexual function is a complex mechanism influenced by many factors.
In addition to abnormalities in the local structure of the penis, factors such as recent physical fatigue, emotional stress, anxiety during first sexual experiences, or failures during initial sexual encounters can contribute to erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation.
It is recommended to relax, engage in regular exercise, and visit a urology clinic for an initial examination and simple medication treatment.
Most young men can achieve good recovery outcomes.
If the issue is indeed due to vascular structural problems, further treatment options are available.

Concerns about erectile dysfunction, especially at a young age like 24, can be distressing and may lead to anxiety about one's health and future relationships. It's important to understand that erectile dysfunction (ED) can have various causes, and addressing these concerns with a healthcare professional is essential for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Understanding Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction is defined as the inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual performance. It can be caused by a range of factors, including psychological issues, physical health problems, lifestyle choices, and hormonal imbalances. In younger individuals, psychological factors often play a significant role, particularly anxiety related to performance, stress, or relationship issues.

Possible Causes in Your Case
1. Psychological Factors: Given that you have experienced anxiety about your performance and have had limited sexual experiences, psychological factors could be contributing to your erectile issues. Performance anxiety can create a cycle of fear and tension that makes it difficult to achieve or maintain an erection.

2. Lifestyle Factors: Your current lifestyle, including irregular sleep patterns (going to bed at midnight), lack of consistent exercise, and feelings of fatigue, can also impact your sexual health. Regular physical activity is known to improve blood flow and overall health, which can positively affect erectile function.

3. Hormonal and Physical Health: While you mentioned concerns about high blood pressure, it’s important to rule out other physical health issues. Hormonal imbalances, particularly low testosterone levels, can also contribute to erectile dysfunction. A healthcare provider can perform tests to check hormone levels and overall health.

4. Frequency of Sexual Activity: You noted a history of frequent masturbation, which can sometimes lead to temporary changes in sexual response. However, this is typically not a long-term issue and should not be a cause for concern unless it is compulsive or interfering with daily life.

Steps to Take
1. Consult a Healthcare Professional: The first step is to speak with a healthcare provider, such as a urologist or a primary care physician. They can conduct a thorough evaluation, including a physical examination and possibly blood tests, to rule out any underlying medical conditions.

2. Consider Psychological Support: If psychological factors are suspected, speaking with a therapist or counselor who specializes in sexual health can be beneficial. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is often effective in addressing performance anxiety and other psychological barriers.

3. Lifestyle Modifications: Incorporating regular exercise into your routine can improve your physical health and boost your confidence. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity each week. Additionally, establishing a regular sleep schedule can help reduce fatigue and improve overall well-being.

4. Avoid Substance Abuse: If you consume alcohol or recreational drugs, consider reducing or eliminating these substances, as they can negatively impact erectile function.

5. Medication: If your healthcare provider determines that medication is appropriate, they may prescribe phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (such as Viagra or Cialis), which can help improve erectile function. However, these should only be taken under medical supervision.

Conclusion
Erectile dysfunction at a young age can be concerning, but it is often treatable. The key is to address both the physical and psychological aspects of your health. By consulting with a healthcare professional, making lifestyle changes, and possibly seeking psychological support, you can work towards improving your sexual health and overall well-being. Remember, you are not alone in this, and many young men experience similar issues. Taking proactive steps is the best way to regain confidence and improve your sexual health.
