Post-circumcision care
Doctor, I apologize for bothering you.
I had a circumcision surgery on August 19, and I have a few questions I would like to ask.
Thank you.
1.
It has been about three weeks since the surgery, but I still experience slight swelling if I do not keep it wrapped.
The doctor mentioned that I could stop wrapping it after a week, and that if the swelling persists, wrapping it would help.
However, I am not very good at wrapping it, and it often comes undone after a few hours when I am out.
When I return home at night, there is some swelling.
Should I continue to wrap it? (There is only swelling, no other symptoms.)
2.
I have read online that many people have their stitches fall out within one to two weeks, but I have only lost one stitch so far, and the others seem quite secure with no signs of loosening.
Is this normal?
3.
My original erect length was about 13-14 cm, but now, although it has not fully healed, it appears to be noticeably shorter when erect.
I am quite sure this is not just a visual effect, as I have measured it and the difference is clear.
Will it gradually return to its original length? It has been almost a month, and I am a bit worried.
Thank you, doctor.

Hello: It has been about three weeks now, but if I don't wrap it, there is still slight swelling.
The doctor mentioned that after a week, I could stop wrapping it, and if the swelling occurs, I could wrap it again.
However, I am not very good at wrapping, and it often comes undone after half a day when I'm out.
Then, when I get home at night, there is some swelling.
Should I continue to wrap it? (There is only swelling, no other symptoms) --> You can stop wrapping, as simple swelling will gradually subside.
2.
I have read online that many people have their stitches removed in one to two weeks, but I have only lost one stitch so far, and the others seem quite stable with no signs of loosening.
Is this normal? --> You should schedule a follow-up appointment.
3.
My original erect size was about 13-14 cm, but now, although it hasn't fully recovered, it is noticeably shorter when erect.
I am quite sure it is not an optical illusion, as it is evident when measured with a ruler.
Will it gradually return to normal? It has been almost a month, and I am a bit worried.
--> Please consult with your surgeon, as there is no clinical reason for this to be affected.
Wishing you good health.

Post-circumcision recovery can vary significantly from person to person, and it’s important to address your concerns with accurate information. Here are responses to your questions based on common medical knowledge regarding post-circumcision recovery.
1. Swelling and Bandaging: It is not uncommon to experience some swelling after circumcision, especially in the first few weeks. If you are noticing mild swelling without any signs of infection (such as increased redness, warmth, or discharge), it may be a normal part of the healing process. The recommendation to keep the area bandaged for a week is generally to minimize swelling and protect the surgical site. If you find that bandaging is difficult and it keeps falling off, you might consider using a different type of dressing or adhesive that can better secure the bandage. However, if the swelling persists or worsens, it would be wise to consult your surgeon or healthcare provider for further evaluation. They may suggest whether continued bandaging is necessary or if there are alternative methods to manage the swelling.
2. Stitches and Healing: The timeline for stitches to dissolve or fall out can vary based on the type of sutures used. Some sutures are absorbable and may take longer to dissolve, while others may be non-absorbable and need to be removed by a healthcare professional. If you still have most of your stitches intact after three weeks, it could be normal, especially if they are absorbable. However, if you have concerns about the stitches not loosening or if they seem too tight, it’s best to follow up with your doctor. They can assess the healing process and determine if any intervention is needed.
3. Changes in Size: It is not unusual for individuals to notice temporary changes in penile size or appearance following circumcision. Swelling and inflammation can contribute to a perceived decrease in size, and this should improve as the healing progresses. It’s important to remember that the body undergoes various changes during the recovery process, and it may take several weeks for everything to settle down. If you are concerned about the size or if it does not seem to improve over time, it would be advisable to discuss this with your healthcare provider. They can provide reassurance and evaluate if there are any underlying issues that need to be addressed.
In summary, while some swelling and delayed stitch absorption can be normal, it’s crucial to monitor your recovery closely. If you experience any unusual symptoms such as increased pain, signs of infection, or if your concerns about size persist, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider. They can provide personalized advice and ensure that your recovery is on track. Remember, every individual's healing process is unique, and your comfort and health are the top priorities.
