Testicular issues

Hello doctor, last night before bed, I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my left testicle that lasted quite a while before it subsided.
However, upon close examination, the testicle appears normal.
Could this be related to my recent prolonged sitting? Should I seek medical attention for this?

Hello: If it occurs 1-2 times a week, you should seek medical attention.
If it's only once, try to stay active; improving circulation may alleviate the pain.
Wishing you good health.

More Info

Testicular pain can be a concerning symptom, and understanding when to seek medical attention is crucial for your health. Based on your description of sudden pain in the left testicle that improved after some time, there are several potential causes to consider. While it is possible that prolonged sitting could contribute to discomfort or pain in the testicular area due to pressure or tension in the pelvic region, it is essential to rule out more serious conditions.

Possible Causes of Testicular Pain
1. Epididymitis: This is an inflammation of the epididymis, the tube that carries sperm from the testicle. It can be caused by infections, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or urinary tract infections (UTIs). Symptoms may include swelling, redness, and tenderness in the affected testicle.

2. Testicular Torsion: This is a medical emergency where the spermatic cord becomes twisted, cutting off blood supply to the testicle. Symptoms typically include sudden, severe pain, swelling, and sometimes nausea. This condition requires immediate medical attention to prevent loss of the testicle.

3. Inguinal Hernia: This occurs when tissue, such as part of the intestine, protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles. It can cause discomfort or pain in the groin or testicular area, especially when sitting or standing for long periods.

4. Trauma or Injury: Any recent injury to the groin area can lead to testicular pain. Even minor trauma can cause significant discomfort.

5. Varicocele: This is an enlargement of the veins within the scrotum, which can cause a dull ache or discomfort, especially after prolonged sitting or standing.

6. Referred Pain: Sometimes, pain in the testicles can be referred from other areas, such as the lower back or abdomen, due to nerve pathways.

When to Seek Medical Attention
Given the potential seriousness of some conditions associated with testicular pain, it is advisable to seek medical attention if you experience any of the following:
- Severe or worsening pain: If the pain becomes unbearable or does not improve, it is crucial to see a doctor.

- Swelling or redness: Any visible swelling, redness, or warmth in the scrotum should be evaluated.

- Nausea or vomiting: These symptoms, especially when combined with testicular pain, may indicate a more serious condition.

- Pain during urination or ejaculation: This could suggest an infection or other underlying issue that needs treatment.

- Persistent discomfort: If the pain recurs or persists over several days, it is essential to consult a healthcare provider.

Conclusion
While your recent experience of testicular pain may not indicate a severe issue, it is always better to err on the side of caution. If you have any concerns or if the pain returns, I recommend scheduling an appointment with a healthcare provider. They can perform a physical examination and may order tests, such as an ultrasound, to determine the cause of your pain. Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent complications and ensure your overall health and well-being.
