Testicular pain
Hello Doctor, a few days ago while I was doing some DIY, I suddenly experienced severe pain in my testicles just as I was about to ejaculate.
I became very anxious because this had never happened to me before.
The pain lasted for about 2 seconds and then subsided, leaving only a slight soreness.
I'm worried that it might be something like testicular torsion since this has never happened to me before.
I'm really concerned and would like to know if I should see a doctor.
Please help me with your advice.
Thank you.

Hello, student Hsieh: Testicular pain can occasionally occur at this age.
Most cases are triggered by nerve irritation.
A minority are due to testicular torsion.
Testicular torsion is associated with higher levels of pain and lasts longer (from several minutes to several hours).
It needs to be addressed within 6 hours; otherwise, it can lead to testicular necrosis.
If you have any further questions or need more details, feel free to ask, and we can discuss and research together.
Sincerely, Dr.

Testicular pain can be a concerning symptom, especially when it occurs suddenly and intensely, as you described during your DIY activity. Understanding when to seek medical attention for testicular pain is crucial for ensuring your health and well-being.
Firstly, it’s important to recognize that testicular pain can arise from various causes, some of which may require immediate medical intervention. Common causes of testicular pain include:
1. Epididymitis: This is an inflammation of the epididymis, often caused by infections, including sexually transmitted infections. Symptoms may include swelling, redness, and tenderness in the scrotum.
2. Orchitis: Similar to epididymitis, orchitis is an inflammation of the testicle, which can also be due to viral or bacterial infections.
3. Testicular torsion: This is a medical emergency where the spermatic cord becomes twisted, cutting off blood supply to the testicle. Symptoms typically include sudden, severe pain, swelling, and sometimes nausea. This condition requires immediate surgical intervention to prevent permanent damage.
4. Trauma: Any injury to the testicles can lead to pain and swelling. If you experienced any trauma during your DIY activity, this could be a potential cause.
5. Hernia: An inguinal hernia can cause discomfort in the groin and testicular area, especially when lifting heavy objects or straining.
6. Varicocele: This involves enlarged veins within the scrotum and can cause a dull ache or discomfort.
Given your description of sudden, intense pain that resolved quickly but left a lingering sensation, it’s understandable to be concerned about conditions like testicular torsion. However, since the pain subsided and you did not experience any ongoing discomfort or significant swelling, it may not indicate an emergency. That said, it is essential to monitor for any changes or recurrence of pain.
When to Seek Medical Attention:
You should seek medical attention if you experience any of the following:
- Severe, persistent pain that does not resolve.
- Swelling or redness in the scrotum.
- Nausea or vomiting accompanying the pain.
- Pain that radiates to the abdomen or back.
- Any changes in the appearance of the testicles or scrotum.
- Fever or chills, which may indicate an infection.
If you experience any of these symptoms, it is crucial to see a healthcare provider promptly. Even if the pain resolves, if you have concerns or if this is a new symptom for you, it is wise to consult a doctor for a thorough evaluation. They may perform a physical examination and possibly order imaging studies, such as an ultrasound, to assess the condition of your testicles and surrounding structures.
In conclusion, while your episode of testicular pain may not indicate a serious condition, it is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to testicular health. If you have any doubts or if the pain recurs, do not hesitate to seek medical advice. Your health is paramount, and addressing any concerns early can help prevent complications.
